Not as good as it ought to be
on April 18, 2016

While Turbotax is thorough and generally easy to use, it asks high level questions, to which, if you say no, it should indicate clearly that you addressed the various detailed questions, by saying the topic isn't applicable. Instead you get a listing indicating START for each of the sets of detailed questions. Going through these just shows the detailed questions are no more applicable than the high level question. I would prefer to just have the high level question acknowledge the detailed questions if I say NO (in other words the topic is not applicable). I wasted time addressing the details.
What's great about it: Thorough and generally easy to use
What's not so great: Doesn't really show on an itemized return when you have reviewed and dismissed a category

PINs & 1099Q
on April 18, 2016

I had to enter 3 different PIN's this year - one for my signature, one for e-filing, and a third, called the IP PIN, for potential tax fraud on my 2014 taxes. I thought I had the numbers I needed, but because I lost the IP PIN mailed to me last year, I was unable to e-file. I didn't get prompted to input the IP PIN, which was found under "Other Tax Situations". I waited to file my taxes until the end, and when I realized I didn't have the PIN, it was too late to get the PIN from the IRS. Therefore, I had to mail my taxes. I would like to have been asked about the IP PIN up front so I would have realized that it was different then the other two (it is a 6 digit number, as opposed to 4 or 5 digits) and then I would have had time to get it mailed to me.
I also had trouble with my 1099Q being counted as income and getting taxed because our MAGI was too high. Even though the distibution was less than our college costs as reported on our 1098T, TT would not allow them to be considered. This needs to be fixed, or at least when asking if you received a 1099Q, it should be stated that you are not required to file it, I spent hours trying to fix this, and finally just took it out.
Otherwise, happy with TT. I am a 5+ year TT user.
What's great about it: Allows you to enter all PINs
What's not so great: Didn't prompt me for IP PIN

98% Satisfied
on April 18, 2016

We've used TurboTax for many years. This is the first year we submitted a question to the Community for help. We didn't get an answer back. Hoping that part of the return was done correctly.
What's great about it: Great for non-tax experts
What's not so great: No guarantee of getting help with questions re: personal situations
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

So Buggy
on April 18, 2016

I downloaded the Deluxe product on my Mac. It was so buggy, then froze, crashed and saved NOTHING. And the state tax was EXTRA - yet the product description said it was included.
I don't know why I bother with this product.

Some problems, but good overall
on April 18, 2016

Incorrect entries included things like titles entered in address lines and $ amounts entered in the wrong box on form, even though they were entered correctly on the step-by-step.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: some auto-fill forms were filled out incorrectly and and had to be corrected manually.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
