TT has been a reliable and fairly easy way to file taxes, over the years. Had some issues with maintaining records, since I would use online and CD versions in different years. Once in a while, questions would arise that I could not resolve using the "Help" feature, and had to research the issue through IRS. Might be easier for people who have accounting, finance or law backgrounds.

efile problems

I owed both fed and state and neither were processed. I had to make separate payments and the feds charged late payment. The only thing that is different on my checking account is that I have a separate ACH number. I felt sure I entered this info correctly (ACH exception from full acct no). Unfortunately Turbo Tax doesn't let me go back and see what was entered. I don't think I'll use Turbo Tax again because of this hassle.
What's great about it: retrieving prior year info
What's not so great: efile bank data

Loading prior years info does not work unless .TXF file is saved, this is not clear!! and cost hours of time and confusion.
What's great about it: Easy and thorough.
What's not so great: Format for saving and re-accessing confusing, PDF or TXF

online versus download

The step be step instructions don't necessarily work for retirement IRA's and conversions. If you try to change a nondeductible contribution to a Roth IRA the program automatically adds more tax due. I was unable to correct this operation and as such did not recharacterize to a Roth IRA. In general it seems the step by step process doesn't account for multiple scenarios as I remember from 2009. Overall still the best product even with the higher cost.
What's great about it: I was able to transfer the online data to the download to my pc but did require phone call to turbo tax
What's not so great: Nothing tells me once I start the online version that it will not operate the same as a download.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Turbo is going downhill

I have used Turbo Tax for years but in the past two years I have been experiencing more and more problems with it. The format has changed, the helps are no longer there and this year I have now received a notice from my state that I owe. I have gone back to my form and I cannot find, nor find out where the error is. I have run the error check multiple times and it claims all is well. Yet, I owe $500 instead of getting $1000 back. I have checked to help section and no help seems to be available. Next year I will be paying a tax man.
What's not so great: Help section no longer helpful. Cannot find source of error for state forms. Step-by-step guidance no longer as intuitiv

I have been doing my taxes with Turbotax for the past four years. Out of all the years I have used it, this year's software I like the least. To explain, I did not want to fill out a questionnaire before doing my taxes. I am already stressed about doing it and before starting I have to answer let's get to know you questions. I just want to do it and be done and away from this task. Also, there is a form that I get for selling stock the form 1099B. The explanation of how to complete this section is not understandable by me. The description of Box A, B, etc. did not match how the 1099B was set up and I was so confused this year on completing that section. Other than that, it is good.
Pros: I bought or sold investments, I moved
