Well Designed Product

As a person who uses a lot of computer software, it is clear that Turbo Tax is well designed. It explains different parts of the income tax process by giving a lot of links to more information. The ones that I have reviewed gave me all the information I needed and let me know where to go to get even more help. It also gives the option of going through the completion of the software and return be either going though it step be step or allowing the user to go to specific items. The step by step process does an excellent job of asking easy to answer questions to complete the tax return. The specific item option lets the experienced person go the a particular part of the process and complete only the parts the apply, thus allowing for saving a lot of time. However, it would be nice to have a way to work on a specific line of the tax forms if you needed to check or change a specific line. As a person that started filling out the tax return forms using paper before the software was available, it would be nice to have this feature.
What's great about it: Gives the option for either step by step process or a experienced user process
What's not so great: As a person who did my own returns before using software it nice to have a way to go to a specific tax form line.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

It's like going on a guided tour. You're in the comfort of your own space, you have all of the points shown and explained to you so that you know what you're doing, and you get to do a little or a lot whenever you want to. You can always save it and go back into it later. Sweet! Have used before and will again.
What's great about it: So easy to understand and follow the instructions.
What's not so great: No Cons At All. Very good!

Good, still not perfect

TurboTax has slowly improved over the 15 or more years I've used it, leaving only a couple of problem areas this year. Overall, the Deluxe version (CD) worked well, having only one really irritating problem and one lesser problem.
The major problem, as always, is in the Federal Review section: T-Tax insists that I answer needless (and sometimes bizarre, meaningless) questions about my vehicle use even though I had no Schedule C-type mileage and wound up using the standard deduction this year. I have not driven a vehicle for business use for well over a decade (only medical, employment, investment, and charitable uses)--yet the review still asks me to go back and edit some vehicle data as though I still had my business. I finally had to just delete the vehicle data in order to get out of the endless do-loop that T-Tax created. This is pointless. Fix it.
The minor, though still bothersome, problem is in the File section, as in previous years. It is difficult to know exactly when to print the returns for either mailing or record copies (or for previewing before filing). Getting into and out of the correct "slide" to finish this section is not intuitive (despite your company name, "Intuit") and could be made a lot more like the rest of your sections. Let users know exactly what steps they will need to take, at what time in the process, and how to get back to where they need to be after previewing or printing. Remember, we are not professional tax preparers or computer nerds--most of us are just regular folk who try to follow your steps but get confused when you are less than clear. Look at your File section from a newcomer's perspective--not your experienced insider perspective--and you'll see what I mean. Then clean up the instructions.
Thanks; I hope to see the improvements next year.
What's great about it: Seemed cleaner and quicker this year in most sections
What's not so great: (1) The "File" section is still awkward if you're not e-filing; (2) Federal Review still has a hangup re vehicle use

Much cheaper that a tax service or accountant. As long as you have kept good records during the tax year, there is no better way to file your taxes.
I hate giving the government as much money as I do. But using Turbo Tax helps me do it right and keeps them off my back because everything is accurate and I think even they trust Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: Simple, accurate, quick and idiot-proof. That last one is a necessity for me.
What's not so great: Couldn't find any.
