Turbo Tax
on April 15, 2016

Works fine as long as you have your paperwork handy and all added up by categories. I've used it before so I had most of it. But when my old computer crashed and I replaced quicken that program didn't work and still doesn't so I am sure I missed something. I will use it next year again.
What's great about it: Works easy
What's not so great: You have to plan ahead,

Getting better
on April 16, 2016

Turbo Tax has come a long way!
However, there are still too many issues from my point of view.
The following are some of them:
On Long lists, such as "Your 2015 Income Summary" freeze the 2014 2015 liine, like it could be done in Excel.
Name under which the return is saved is misleading for ex: "…… Form 1040 Individual Tax Return…"
I would prefer "… Tax returns - 1040A and IT201…" as it contains 2 returns: Fed and State, not just the 1040.
The ==first time== Ttax asks for a W2 indicates : "Do You Have ==Another== W-2 to Enter?
It's kind of confusing.
On the screen "Here's your W-2 info" it indicates "If you have annother W-2, add it now. If not, let's move on."
and just below it shows a list of W-2s.
Next to the listed W-2 it shows the EDIT (and DELETE) buttons.
It's not clear if to "move on" means Edit the displayed W-2 or click on DONE and I will be guided to
enter or update the W-2 info.
In "Can anyone claim [name] as a dependent on their tax return?"
the answer is yes, I can. The question is misleading. Its should say "Can anyone ELSE claim…" as
it's clarified on the following line.
In several places reference is made to "Other State Income". This may be clear to an accountant, however
for a lay person it's confusing as it could mean (1) Other income from the state or (2) Income from another state.
In "Your 2015 Income Summary" Ttax indicates "You can update a specific topic in a section, or Visit All…" , however,
"Visit All" is not anywhere on the screen!
In Retirement Savings Contribution Credit, it indicates to see IRS Publication 590 Chapter 5.
The correct chapter is 3.
What's great about it: Level of "accountanese" is dropping.
What's not so great: Sometimes difficult to follow

Retirement income versus IRA withdrawl was confusing the way it was presented. Should have a question to determine if it was retirement income and what method was used to determine taxable income.
What's great about it: Relatively easy to complete. Relatively straight forward.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Tax Process Seems Longer
on April 16, 2016

I would like to see more real live calculations in the upper right corner. I would also like to see a scenario simulation to see how I can increase my refund. Can you also simplify the Child Care Section for entering Child Care Provider expenses?
What's great about it: I like the import process of the previous year taxes. Also like the comparison to the previous year filed taxes.
What's not so great: Importing my former company W-2 information was not correct
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
