My Refund

I have used TurboTax for the last 15 years or more, and I find that the process/software is getting very confusing and does not explain things like it used to, even just a few years ago.
Also, If I find things that need to be changed or edited/updated, it is confusing or difficult to navigate back to a specific topics/area to make changes. It used to be much more user friendly; but now, it seems like it is designed for professional tax people, with vague descriptions on tax laws, and a complicated interface. The fees for processing are getting ridiculous too.
What's great about it: convenient, easy to download and install, options to suit your needs
What's not so great: confusing, vague descriptions, software not user friendly sometimes, hard to find specific areas to edit.

Still the easiest tax software
on April 15, 2016

Overall, TurboTax is still a great great way to go. Even if you have a more complex tax situation, the software covers ALOT of the less common scenarios. The guided questions make it almost impossible to miss something or do something incorrect and accidentally screw up your return. The error checking finds and helps you fix things easily.
This year I had only one complaint: If you pick an option that you figure out after a couple more clicks doesn't apply and then hit back and uncheck the box for that item, TurboTax may leave unneeded forms in your return (with no data in them). These will then get caught in the error check. In my case I had accidentally clicked Yes for having home office expenses, then went back and clicked No. Upon the error check it had the home office expense form and wanted me to fill in data in the fields. I had to manually remove this form. The error check should have given me the option to either fill in the key data fields, OR re-answer the question as NO I don't have this situation, and then remove the form for me. However that was the only flaky thing I found, and I was still able to fix it easily; removed the unneeded forms from Forms view; re-ran error check and had no further errors.
What's great about it: Guides you through everything, lots of help, explainations etc
What's not so great: Realize an item you clicked doesn't apply and go back, uncheck the box, unneeded forms sometimes still get included

Love the Hand-Holding!

I have used TT for many years and have continued to recommend it. to others. My son, after dragging his feet 2-3 years, finally signed up about 3-4 years ago. His comment the first year: "This is great!!" And so I had been telling him.
If you're comfortably familiar with the forms, you can enter information directly. I used forms directly when I filed paper returns, but I still prefer to use the Q&A process. The helps along the way are very beneficial, explaining terms in common language.
I've been preparing our returns for 50+ years and have always been extremely pleased with the TT experience.
What's great about it: Q&A process assures me that all areas are covered.
What's not so great: Section for Retirement Investment Plans is always confusing.

This year I had stuff from both my parents passing, my wife's mom' passing and my retirement so dealing with both estates, etc. TurboTax took me there to needed information and forms with no difficulty. Next year will be much simpler :-)
What's great about it: Fast, accurate, very thorough, guaranteed
What's not so great: Cannot think of any
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
