Easier each Year!

Overall, Turbo Tax once again is the best product out there. It really helps when we can do our own taxes without having to pay someone else. Thank you Turbo Tax. As I mentioned in the con, I didn't like it when I would try to go back and yet the system kept information in the area I did not want to include. Other than that, it was simple, to the point, quick, and accurate/efficient. Thank you again!
What's great about it: I liked the accuracy and quickness of the product. I did not have to wait long for it to pull up information.
What's not so great: I didn't like how it kept information in the system even after I pressed the "back" key to get out of specific areas.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Fed and State refund
on April 15, 2016

1 I did not have form 1098-T because I did not attend college in 2015. But I had 1098-E for interest expense. It did not give me option to enter just 1098-E data.
2 1098-T has several blank fields and and gave me error during review. I had to go and find froms 1098-T . Delete from my return. Then I was able to find info for 1098-E to enter.
3 My income was high for getting any FED tax benefit for 1098-E. But turbo tax says it will check in state tax return if I am qualified.
I filed CA state return. I could not find any where that it considered my 1098-E expenses and I got any tax benefit..
4 Fees for downloading additional state tax software $48 is way too high. It should be lowered. I had to download for additional state IL
5 Fee for e-filing state tax return $24.99 is also very high. I can mail for few dollars. Though it will take longer to get refund.
What's great about it: All forms I needed to file are self explanatory
What's not so great: Education expense does not provide a direct entry of form 1098-E

Also had problems with downloading TurboTax. I've used TurboTax for years. I had more problems this year than ever before. Plus all the fees they charge has gone up. Never paid fees before.
What's great about it: none
What's not so great: Had problems downloading state tax files. Took forever to fix the problems.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

Seems to have cleaned up by omitting some unnecessary detailed questions of previous years, although perhaps this was only because I chose not to enter any info for itemizations. The only problem I encountered was in reviewing the health-insurance form and wondering why it had checked the month-to-month boxes for all twelve months, instead of just the covered-all-year boxes that I thought I had reported to the step-by-step.

Generally good product

- As with prior years 1099-R had a 7 in box 2 but this year TT decided initially that this meant the income wasn't taxable. Caused concern if this was correct as it hadn't happened before.
- No declaration made whether added filing security drivers license data would be kept on TT servers or not. Did not add this info because our process is to maximally limit storage of any credit or personal info on external servers that would be rich attack targets for data thieves.
- Categories for itemizing medical expenses not listed at start of series of entries. Meant multiple reorganizations of my receipts that added hours to the filing process.
What's great about it: Import of last year's tax data
What's not so great: Some confusion from failure to preview order of steps, esp. misc & medical ded's. Hard to find some it's ded items.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
