i've been using turbo tax for about 20 years now and love the ease of its use.
What's great about it: step-by-step questions if you need them. skip entire sections that don't apply to your situation.
What's not so great: cons? what cons??? :)

i have done my tax preparation for several years and i am comfortable doing it...easy and simple. i also like the tax audit protection services in case you need it, and they let you know if you are likely or unlikely to be audited.

Good experience as usual

TurboTax prematurely directed me to create a another federal return with "Married filing separately" status because my spouse earned no income in the second state. This was a totally fruitless effort and cost me several hours to generate the separate return. Had the program waited until further into the process to suggest the possibility that a different filing status may reduce my taxes, the futility of such an effort would have become obvious.
What's great about it: ease of use
What's not so great: Handling of income from multiple states was problematic

I followed the instructions for determining the tuition deduction, but never really understood it. A little more basic explanations of the options might bolster my confidence.
What's great about it: Everything done in the proper order, just like always.
What's not so great: Didn't really undrstand the tuiition decuction process.

Assumes too much and too little

I have used TurboTax for over a decade. The biggest drawback about TurboTax is its "trust me" attitude. If an entry doesn't make any sense to you, you just have to trust that TurboTax knows what its doing. It does, but it is very unsettling.
Also if you have a question, i.e, what do I do with a State tax refund, Turbotax gives you the answer but does NOT give you the option of going to the correct data entry page. That would be very useful.
But after saying that it is a lot quicker than doing it by hand and a lot cheaper too.

What's not so great: If you have a question, e.g. what about tax refunds doesn't take you to the right entry page automatically

Easy-Peasy

I pop receipts, tax forms, etc., in a folder all year long so at tax time, all I have to do is fire up turbo tax and grab the folder. I have a weird working situation and it even handles that well. Easy-Peasy!
What's great about it: Walks you through everything, great about answering questions, and makes sure you don't miss anything.
What's not so great: none that I know of.
