Only Use Turbo Tax
on April 14, 2016
Posted by: CoachPhoto
I went from pen and paper to Turbo Tax and I have used them for 7 years now. The software is cheaper than a CPA or other service, the protection option is affordable unlike those other services who charge hundred's. Great product. Great option.
What's great about it: clean and simple to use
What's not so great: repetitive at times.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Fast & Easy

TurboTax is the easiest tax software I've ever used. The interview flow is great with frequent reviews of what's been covered. It took me less than an hour to complete a return with both Schedule A and Schedule C.
What's great about it: TurboTax has the best tax interview flow I've ever used. Everything is laid out with frequent reviews.
What's not so great: None I can think of right now.

Duplication of Limited Partner Sale Info
on April 14, 2016
Posted by: ANewName
Turbotax requires sale of partnership info to be entered and doesn't check to see if same data was downloaded in 1099's.
Required me to then remove data I had entered - and requires me to know whether that is the most advantageous way to file using Turbo Tax.
Required me to have outside advice that I was duplicating data! On my return, I would have paid more taxes than with the correction.
What's not so great: Had to get help to manually remove data: Hope I got as much refund as I should

Easiest ever

Everything with the process was easy but one complaint I have is the state return portion. I live in a state that does not require filing. I downloaded another state so I could complete my daughters return for her, and when I went to do my return, the program continues to try to have me file in the downloaded state. In order to stop this, you have to uninstall the program and reinstall without the downloaded state return.
What's great about it: step by step
What's not so great: downloaded another state for family member and mine tried to file there

I've been using Turbo Tax for years and love the ease of doing my taxes with it. I'll use it as long as they make it.
What's great about it: Very user friendly.
What's not so great: Won't support my Mac system next year.

not sure

it was real confusing on how to differentiate the property taxes paid on new primary residence and old primary. Also, same with interest paid and points for new house. We sold old house Dec.15,2015 and bought new home same day. Different mortgage companies. Property taxes were paid for 2015 in two different cities within same state, but Turbo Tax did not let me break down the two different property tax towns. I hope taxes came out correct due to this issue, I am concerned and was hesitant to use turbo tax for state filing because of this local property tax problem, it only wants to show my current town for taxes paid, and wants to use grand total of both towns property tax to show with current town. I am sure plenty of people move from 1 town to another within a tax year and pay taxes in both towns, but it's not clear on my returns and not clear with the questions turbo tax asked
What's great about it: easy to follow along if you did not buy and sell primary residence
What's not so great: confusing if you bought & sold primary residence, especially for property tax, interest paid on new and old mortgages
Pros: I moved
