Program appears to work quite well. The best response I can give is that I have used Turbo Tax for over Ten years. If It was difficult to use or had problems with the program, I would not buy it again.
What's great about it: Turbo Tax is simple to use if using the guide me tool
What's not so great: Need more direction on home page if you are not going to efile

If April then Turbo Tax

I've been using Turbo Tax for more than 15 years and I am always satisfied with the results. It provides a complete analysis tool for most people's needs and there is always the ability to upgrade if the need arises. I think the product could be improved by compiling more of the questions on the same page, rather than having to continually go to a new page, which also tends to slow entries. Overall, very pleased as usual.
What's great about it: Easy to follow step by step guideline
What's not so great: Too many pages to cover subject questions.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Easiest way to complete even fairly complex taxes

Overall Turbotax does a great job with taxes. The import function saves hours of typing (and errors). The help is spot-on. My only gripe is that when there is a list of similar things (contributions is the most annoying, but stocks has the same issue) they will always appear in the order they were originally entered. Yes, it is possible to alphabetize them by clicking on the top of the column, but once this is done and I find the charity and enter the contribution, when I go back out it is in original order again, and I need to mouse around the screen hundreds of times to get the charities alphabetized, again. As we make many contributions, this adds quite a bit of time (and hassle) to that part of the taxes. Perhaps an "alphabetize" check box on those pages???
What's great about it: Handles most tax situations well
What's not so great: Items in lists (stocks & contributions) will not stay alphabetized
Pros: I bought or sold investments

What's great about it: The extra help links. When needing clarification, easy accessible information.
What's not so great: Not being able to get clarification on the Quick tool link on the schedules

First Time using TurboTax in a While
on April 13, 2016

I am a former TurboTax user who used TurboTax many times until they made software decisions that turned me off several years ago. I have been using alternative software since then. However, this year the tax packages cost about the same so I decided to give TurboTax another try. With this in mind, this review is likely jaded from my use of other software and not being familiar with this one.
The great thing about TurboTax is once I "finished", I felt good enough to file without a lengthy review from the start. However, I may have been so happy just to finish that I didn't want to have another go with this software.
My first negative experience was importing from It's Deductible. TurboTax keep telling me my user ID or password was invalid. I wasted a hour looking on help forums and following broken links looking for a solution. I eventually figured out that I had a character in my password that TurboTax thought was illegal but It's Deductible accepted. The character was either a /, ", ., or :. I changed my password on It's Deductible to a simpler one and then TurboTax imported my data fine.
Another negative experience was when TurboTax was telling me I needed TurboTax small business to enter in expenses related to a 1099-MISC. Every time I tried to enter the expense data, TurboTax would say that Deluxe did not have the ability and I would have to upgrade in order to complete my taxes. This almost drove me to purchasing the competing tax software and writing off TurboTax as a bad idea. However, I decided to try manually entering the information on the forms instead after TurboTax gave me that option. After noodling through some of it, taking a break, and returning the next day, TurboTax magically offered to "interview" me instead of filling out the forms. After that it just worked and I was able to enter in business expenses without additional attempts to upsell me to small business.
Some of the help links were very frustrating. My expectation would be if I click on help it would be context aware and would offer a layman's explanation, an example, or IRS instructions. However, some of the help links showed contextual forum posts of other TurboTax users asking for help. I don't want doing my taxes to be a social experience. I ended up going to the IRS website to find the reference information I needed.
My final frustration was with filling. I am cheap and usually e-file the Fed return and mail the State. I set these options in TurboTax and then the software promptly exited after e-filing the 1040 without dealing with the state forms. I had to restart TurboTax and go through the file process a second time for it to print the instructions and forms I needed for the state taxes. It did not feel as easy as it should have been.
I will reiterate that I am not a regular user as this software and my struggles with it may have been due to my lack of familiarity. I am going to keep my tax software options open for next year.
What's great about it: Only needed to go through it once
What's not so great: Password trouble, broken help links, needless up-selling
