Puts the Turbo in Turbo Tax

Turbo Tax is fast and as easy as filing taxes can be. You can zip through your W-2s, especially if they have an import code. (See? Something NEW I learned already!)
Caveat: It can't keep you honest. Make sure you use the review feature and catch any oversights you may have made. I recommend reviewing several times. Never hesitate to click on the question mark icon if you're the least bit unsure about something. It will save time in the end.
Likewise, the explanations of tax laws and guidelines are easy to understand. The TIPS are succinct and enlightening.
You'll still need time and patience (and coffee), but you won't be slogging through mind numbing tasks, you'll feel like you're accomplishing something big.
I'm 100% confident about my returns and dare I say a smidge smarter about United States Tax Code.
What's great about it: Easy to use. Thorough explanations
What's not so great: ... don't get lulled into thinking taxes are THAT easy!

Overall, great product - Worked well with new Windows 10. HSA section is confusing regarding my contributions vs employers pretax contribution of my money. Makes it look as though my employer contributed instead of me.
What's great about it: data collection
What's not so great: should have more detailed explanations on turbotax vs going to IRS website

Doing Taxes is Awful and Easy

I have used TurboTax for years. It makes doing the taxes easier, but does not make it enjoyable.
What's great about it: Step by step instructions
What's not so great: Definitions of terms and procedures could be clearer.

the state portion of the county school tax is confusing, would think that there has to be a better way of figuring out your districts school tax instead of getting a long form from the local library and reading thru it in order to input the numbers. how should i know. that's why i get the software instead of the long form and doing it by hand and calculator from the form available at my local library... it changes every year where i live and it's an annoyance to try and find out. also my local library is a pain in the butt to get to, parking is bad, traffic is horrendous. again- the reason why i get Turbotax. also the long form makes me too stressed out and i end up drinking 12 cups of coffee by the time i get the taxes paid.
However- Federal tax portion of the software is easy and awesome. the state portion is confusing and the program puts in numbers in blanks that are not appropriate, like for medical premiums it assumed that the DD portion of the Federal W2's was the answer. i never put that in and had to correct the thing. was very confusing. is always a source of anxiety whenever i file state. why does it do that?
e-filing is great. love the way it's stream-lined for convenience. the draw-back: by the time you get to this portion the software always seems to glitch out and not remember that you click "continue" in order to pay and then there is nothing that lets you know that it was paid. then you have to go back and "re-pay" the whole thing only the software seems to remember that you put your values in and that you did indeed give it all the information in which then it processes the return for you. it's not my computer. i deal with this every year. i have a new computer this year and know for a fact it's not user-error.
What's great about it: makes it easy for a novice

Mostly wonderful, still glitches here and there

I've used this for 25 years, and still love it. Every year it gets easier. The way information is collected in the step-through process is very logical, and everything seems to land in the right place in the return. There is immediate feedback in the corner about how you are doing, refund vs. payment.
The final filing process has some glitches, and always seems have some glitch each year. There is no warning that there will be a charge for e-filing your state return until it happens, and the payment process can be awkward or broken, hanging up the filing. This year, I got charged to file, then found out in the next step that I had to file by mail. So I had to contact customer support to get a refund. (The refund call and process was not bad, I must admit -- about 15 minutes).
What's great about it: Walk through process is great, switching in and out of forms view makes it easy for someone with experience
What's not so great: The filing and payment process always seems to have some little hangup
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Major hiccup

The "Let's proceed to file your taxes online" function failed completely. The popup was completely dead. The only way I was able to complete filing was to reboot to a safe mode...completely confusing and un-necessary. Bad.
What's great about it: Forms are always easy to complete and questions relevant
What's not so great: When the rubber met the road, TurboTax completely let me down.
