Pretty Good, but....

Logical, easy to use, and accurate. I had some difficulty in going to the forms to make changes. It seemed like after the changes were made on the form the program ignored the changes. In addition, when it's necessary to go back and add data, even when you tell the program that you will find your own way as opposed to "walk me through", it's necessary to repeat the entry of data instead of just going to the entry that requires change. Another problem, the personal information section asks for "mailing address" although throughout the forms the program enters this address as "residence". I have a second home which is a vacation home. Due to its value I prefer to classify this second home as my residence in order to qualify for a homestead exemption in my State. Due to poor mail service in a rural area at the vacation home, I prefer to receive my mail at a second location, my "mailing address". I have not been able to change the address on both my State and city return.
What's great about it: Simple to use, accurate.
What's not so great: Sometimes difficult to make changes.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Wouldn't Try My Tax Without Turbotax

I've used TurboTax for over 10 years now. If I did not have it, I would have to pay Big Bucks to have a professional service do my taxes. Over the years, my tax status has become more and more complicated with increasing wealth and mutual funds, IRA's, Social Security, and Medical expenses etc. Turbo Tax makes it easy as long I keep all the records. Keep paperwork in a file all year...and at the end it's cake!
What's great about it: Easy step-by-step; Accurate; Follows up on filing status; Makes NEXT YEAR EASIER
What's not so great: Does not explain errors well...when they happen

I've used Turbo Tax for years and love it. I like the guided walk though and the help tabs. I found out this year to keep more detailed records of the items that I donate to charity to use the software's donation helper. I also found out that retrofitting my house with insulation is deductible. Another thing to add to my to-do list.
What's great about it: The software walks you through step by step
What's not so great: none
Pros: I bought or sold investments

TurboTax - still good, but no longer the best

Having used TurboTax for a decade it is my go to tax prep option, but over the last couple of years the experience has deteriorated somewhat. Don't get me wrong, it is still an excellent program, but the "help" functions are more limited than they should be for a "Premiere" product in this price range, the in program version upsells are annoying, and in my case were not justified. I tested H&R Block's tax software last year, alongside TurboTax and was pleasantly surprised at how polished it was, how well the help worked when I had questions, and the no extra charge access to a "live" person when that wasn't sufficient. Unless things improve that will be my go to tax prep moving forward.
What's great about it: Easy interview, accurate calculations
What's not so great: Have to dig for help, upsell in program annoying
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Throughout each year I just keep a folder for all donation receipts, medical receipts, etc. I install TurboTax and just answer questions. How simple can it be?
My itemized deductions fell below the standard deduction this year for the first time. TurboTax pointed this out, recommended the standard deduction, but left the choice to me in case there was a unique situation. The program handles all the entries and computations, but leaves decision-making to the individual.
What's great about it: Receipts to Submittal relatively painless.
What's not so great: It's still taxes.
