Learning Process

I have used Turbo Tax a couple times and found it to be helpful.
What's great about it: Step-by-step instructions
What's not so great: Some items not explained clearly
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

No Longer Intuitive

Last year we were the victims of identity theft that prevented us from e-filing. After the whole situation was squared away, we were given a IP PIN to use to e-file our taxes this year. Nowhere on TurboTax did it give me the option to enter it, even when I used the "Let Us Do This For You" option, which is supposed to be simpler option. I got confused but thought since they were asking for my driver's licenses, this is the first year to do so, I thought maybe the PIN wasn't needed or attached to our licenses somehow. Surprise, surprise, my tax returns were rejected again.
When I returned to TurboTax, it states the returns rejected because I didn't enter the IP PIN, that they never asked for, but also they don't give you an option to "goto" the area to fill it in. So I had to find it. If you use the search in the Help dropdown of the menu bar, may God have mercy on your soul. You enter "I" and have to wait an eternity so it can return everything in the TurboTax database that starts with "I". Then you get to enter the second letter, "P", because the FAQs on their website tell you to find it using "IP PIN" as the search term. Nothing found under "IP". After further research, I learned you have to use the "Search Topics" icon in the actual window, which does return a lot faster. You would think they would both be the same thing.
I finally get everything filled out and TurboTax states I need to print out some form, 14039-T, and send it in, but not to worry, they will have it at the end. I e-file again and it says to print my needed forms. I hit print and only my state payment voucher prints. Then I hit "continue" and another page says THESE are the Federal documents I need to print. Hit print again and my state payment voucher prints again. Nothing else. So I have to go back into my forms to find this form and print it myself.
If I'm doing this much work to file my taxes, I should just pay myself to get it done.
What's great about it: It's great if you have a simple situation
What's not so great: Anything short of filing more than a 1040 and state, Turbotax makes you figure it out on your own

Still good.

Still a methodical way to walk through the process.
The one step that is kludged is donations.
First, Turbotax asked which of the recipients from 2014 were also recipients in 2015. The data entry for donations wasn't for many screen later.
Second, when I starting entering donations, Turbotax only provided the ability to enter one recipient before moving to the next deduction category. When I went back to donations, I then had the ability to enter multiple recipients of donations.
What's great about it: Benchmark step-by-step

I appreciate Turbo Tax's ease of accesibility to the tax payer.
What's great about it: The questions are mainly easily comprehended!
What's not so great: Sometimes, their wording throws me off but all I have to do is read a little slower ;)

For the past two years I had to have a profession prepare my taxes because I owned my own business. Now that I no longer own my business I use TurboTax to prepare my taxes again. It is always easy and, for me, only takes a couple of hours to complete.
What's great about it: Easy to use. Asks simple questions to maximize your refund.

Very straightforward. The software works exactly as it should - no bugs and easy to navigate. If only the tax code were so simple!
