Getting Better

One thing I really liked is that TT has finally found a way to walk me through the problem wherein my pension system doesn't calculate the "taxable portion". Seems simple, but in past years it resulted in the gross pension amount not being carried forward to the state return. The end result was an error message and somewhat fuzzy instructions on how to proceed. However, as TT "automates" more of the "behind the scenes" automatic calculations, I don't know for sure that these things (like calculating the "taxable portion") have been done until I review the completed return. Over-all, I plan to continue to buy and use Quicken and Turbo Tax. That really is the final word on my opinion of the product.
What's great about it: Covers everything that I needed to address
What's not so great: A little daunting not seeing the behind the scenes computations

Simple, fast, and clear

Despite being 27 years old, I've never filed a tax return on my own. I've usually just let my father handle it. However, I decided to be a little more independent and process my return on my own this year. All of my research pointed to TurboTax as the premier means of doing your taxes by yourself. The process was fairly straightforward, quick, and not intimidating whatsoever.
What's great about it: User-friendly format, clear and concise instructions, free federal and state e-files

More bugs than usual this year

I've used this thing since the early MacInTax years. It has always had the right forms that I needed, especially after the product matured a long time ago. This year I noticed several annoying bugs... I can't remember them all, but a bad one was in Forms Schedule E when creating the depreciation schedules, after entering some data in the Asset Entry Worksheet and pressing Return the program jumped out of the Form and into some nearby unrelated form. Sometimes I could use the back arrow, but often I had to go and enter my worksheet again to continue. No data loss, though. That might have happened in the Asset Life History forms, also; I can't remember. Another thing, previous year the program coaxed me to permit it to backup my file or something like that in real time on your website, and I fell for it. I regretted it the whole time I was making my return because it was so very slow and interfered with my progress. I didn't notice that invitation this year and things were better, but toward the end I constantly had to wait multiple small times before my next data entry with the spinning wheel "wait" signal slowing me down. I wouldn't expect that if I was operating purely local. All told, though, my return was complicated, I had all the forms I needed, and they all seemed to work properly. You streamlined some places in your coaching mode that helped a lot (one was in data entry for donations, another was in the K-1 section).
What's great about it: Complete - had all the forms I needed for a complex return
What's not so great: Several annoying bugs, got slow toward the end like it wasn't local
Pros: I bought or sold investments
