Overall a very good product! It would be very very good if the tool could compute IRA calculations to indicate how much I am eligible to contribute based on my current and past tax returns.
What's great about it: Forms to capture information are very detailed and thorough. Overall easy to use if one has used the tool before
What's not so great: IRA calculations to indicate how much I am eligible for contributions

What's great about it: works good
What's not so great: increase in the state e-file sucks, the worst is having to pay to e-file my state return!

Mostly good, with several minor annoyances

In the Forms view, clicking on an entry should always provide the source of the number. Sometimes the program only says "Calculated", but doesn't tell you which other entries were used, and how it was calculated.
The program sometimes seems to go off the track. I have both a pension and IRA withdrawals to enter. After the IRA info is entered, the program asks whether this is an RMD, and whether the entire amount is an RMD. That's correct, but then it asks the same question for the pension information--it's not a relevant question here.
The comments that appear when a section has been completed are patronizing. "Congratulations! You qualify for a medical deduction", etc.
Why does the program carry the 1099 payers from last year's return to the current year? When I do a download for this year, it creates a new entry, even if the previous year had the same payer. Clicking the Update button on the transferred name doesn't allow the download--the only option is to type all of this year's data. After I download this year's info, I have to delete the names of all the transferred payers (which have no data), so what was the point of transferring them?
It is EXTREMELY annoying that Turbotax automatically updates the saved tax return EVEN WHEN no changes have been made. Occasionally I want to look at last year's return to check how a particular income or deduction was entered. As soon as I open the previous year return and start looking through the Easystep process, the program saves the old return, which updates the timestamp on my computer. I DON"T WANT THIS TO HAPPEN. I want the timestamp to correctly identify the time when I completed and submitted that previous year return. The clumsy workaround is to make a copy of the previous year return, and open the copy. When I'm done looking at the copy, delete it.
What's great about it: Easy download of 1099 and W2 information. Deluxe version provides all the forms needed, including Sch C and D.
What's not so great: It tends to treat the user like a child.

TurboTax Deluxe is the perfect product for the average filer. Those who are selling investments (stocks, bonds, mutual funds, employee stock plans, and retirement plans) and dealing with rental properties are better off with the Premier version. Deluxe is great at leading you through the maze for deductions and identifying the best options for the individual taxpayer. It literally walks your through each step and lets you know what the best decision is in each case. The Deluxe version is also very good at capturing charitable contributions when used in tandem with Intuit's online ItsDeductible program, which captures donations along with the associated/required supporting data and provides an IRS-approved calculation method for donated items. ItsDeductible is also available 24/7/365 to facilitate capture of donations throughout the year as they occur. The education expenses deduction tool is also very good. If you haven't used TurborTax before, don't be alarmed about what you will see in the Refund/Tax Due indicators at the top of the screen early in the preparation process. The indicator doesn't tell that you are seeing a real time capture and calculation for each value (income first and then deductions) as it is entered/confirmed as being applicable, which means that the early calculations don't include most of the deductions that you will enter later in the process. In the end, I was able to find and claim deductions that significantly reduced my tax liability - and I got a very nice refund.
What's great about it: Process steps guide you through each income and deduction topic and confirms what applies to you
What's not so great: The tax owed/refund tracker can be alarming because it calculates in real time but doesn't say it's in in-process number

taxes made easy

I've used Turbotax since the very first year it was released. Each year new improvements are made. But this year I noticed I had to switch to forms because some things I was putting on the easy step were not transferring to the forms. But as we all know it is a good thing to preview the return before your file it anyway. As long as you are in a quiet place and can start the process start from finish without being interrupted Turbotax is a easy way to get the taxes done. I use this to get all my families returns done.
What's great about it: Does all the major grunt work for you
What's not so great: Still need to click on forms to enter some things manually.
