Healthcare Reform Strugles

Healthcare reform and tax forms made the process of completing the tax process more complicated than ever. I don't fault TurboTax for the problems. I blame the federal government for making the tax reporting process so complicated that TurboTax had to struggle to make their software handle the complexities. There were too many uncertainties and the federal tax documentation is way to complicated. What was it, 20 plus pages of legalese documentation just to handle healthcare. I feel sorry for the person who struggled with their education.
What's great about it: Simple to use if your return is simple
What's not so great: Healthcare reforms made tax return confusing
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I have never had any issues using TurboTax to do my taxes. Everything worked great and the software is intuitive and informative throughout.

What's great about it: Very smooth transition to the next steps for your data to be intered. Helpfull pop out windows for each question.
What's not so great: k-1 Schedule which one to pick was not highlighted initially. Reminder to not print everything until the very very end

Excellent program

I have been using TurboTax Deluxe for about 8 years. I used a CPA for a few years, but once I simplified my investments, I realized that after I did most of the work of gathering the financial information, entering the information was only about 10% of the work. (I still use a CPA for a LLC) After using it once, the next year's program will gather your information from the previous year to help make sure you don't miss any incomes and deductions from the previous year (I save all my tax files by year on a back-up hard drives). As I said in the cons above, for some reason, certain things don't transfer. Such as if I am faced with the possibility of AMT, it asks me for AMT worksheet information from the previous year, which is almost impossible to find. Since I used TurboTax the previous year, shouldn't the program be able to pull up the AMT worksheet information from the previous year? Similarly this year, since I owed federal and state income tax, the program knew what my previous year's tax amount to figure out my penalty, but did not know my previous year's state tax amount so I had to pull up my previous years information to enter the amount.
What's great about it: easy to use, transfers information from previous years
What's not so great: during the check there are some information that don't transfer, AM information from last does not transfer

It's just okay

I have been using Turbo tax for at least a dozen years now. Mostly because with it I can complete the filing by the time a gather the required information to take to a preparer.
It doesn't seem to me I'd get any different results by paying someone else to do it for me.
What's great about it: Relatively easy
What's not so great: Most of the questions don't relate to retirees

Turbo Tax is great for the person that doesn't know much about taxes. It walks you thru each possible scenario but if you get stuck ie don't understand - there are a number of help options to assist you.
What's great about it: Easy to follow questions
What's not so great: Can't think of one
