Used to be better
on April 9, 2016

Turbo Tax used to be so much more user friendly and intuitive. What happen to the videos? It's so hard to go back and change answers to specific questions. I had to just start over and that's really annoying. I keep using it because it transfers my info from the previous year which is very convenient. However, it doesn't keep track of the everything like how many times you claimed Education Credits. Why can't it just look at the last 2 or 3 years of returns on my computer and just know???
I feel like I'm stuck with it. Like I said, it used to be more friendly and intuitive. My 2 cents.
What's great about it: It walks you through the process ok.
What's not so great: It's really hard to go back and find pages to specific questions if you want to change your answer.

I found TurboTax to be a very thorough and accurate program. Easy to use and contains all the adequate security safeguards and additional information features one would require. I've used it for years with no problems whatsoever.
What's great about it: accurate and easy to use

Better experience this year
on April 9, 2016

After last year I considered switching to one of TT's competitors because there seemed to be important sections missing regarding the logic for taxes for other than federal or state. In Ohio I have school district and RITA to deal with and TT was having accuracy issues. A friend who is a tax consultant said he always uses the forms view, which takes the "fun" out of preparing taxes in my opinion. ;-)
This year was better. But the combination of my wife's W2 income and my independent contractor income requiring estimated payments be entered still caused inaccurate totals on school district and RITA forms. I finally had to resort to forms view to get the numbers what they needed to be.
I also changed from contractor to full-time, which eliminated the need for making estimated payments at the federal level but continue doing so at the state and local levels. The logic wouldn't give me the opportunity to make that change. I had to resort to forms view again. However, this may be the a minor exception in most situations.
One behavior that still bothered me was the latency between when I clicked a button or moved a slider and when the screen responded. I learned to wait on it. But it still bothered me.
Thanks for making this year's product better. Maybe lessons learned will make next year's even better!
What's great about it: Better consistency and more thorough than last year
What's not so great: Logic deficient in combining mixed W2/estimated taxes paid on income situations other than Fed and State
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Tardy with 2013 Filing
on April 9, 2016

I've used Turbo Tax for several years, and have never had any issues with my returns. The directions are clear and concise, and allowing me to bring forward information from previous years is a great time saver. Once I have all the information, preparing both federal and state returns is about a 3-hour process, much simpler than hand-writing and doing all the calculations on my own.
What's great about it: Absolutely simple - walks you through every step

Easy and lots of great product options

Very easy and through. Definitley much cheaper than doing it through a tax professional with the same results. I have used tax professionals in the past and its definitely not worth it. They simply click through a similar software to and charge you more for doing it. With turbo tax, I click through the software myself and pay much less with the same results.
What's great about it: Easy, Multiple price options, Work at your own pace
What's not so great: e-filing fees too high and in addition for tax returd preparation fees

Easy as Pie

As a former government employee I was used to doing my own tax return thinking I needed to be responsible for everything entered. I waited until I retired to try TurboTax and I've aggravated myself ever since. Not only is the software easy to use it also covers more things than I did myself. One of the most enjoyable aspects is the import of data from the prior year. In a nutshell - what a breeze to use and efile.
What's great about it: Ease of input because of last year's import of data

Reliable Tax Preparation
on April 9, 2016

I really like being able to reliably prepare my tax returns with TurboTax. And e-filing really makes it seamless. But I dislike the e-filing fee for the state return. The smaller amounts involved just don't justify the filing fee, so I just print and snail mail the state return,
What's great about it: Like the way TurboTax makes tax return prep easier,
What's not so great: Dislike the e-filing fee for a single state.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments
