I could not e-file because it was stuck in a loop. It said I had an error on my 179 depreciation carry forward, but it would not allow me to enter a number. So, I am filing by mail. Otherwise OK

I've used TurboTax for a few years. What I like is that "Search Box". Any questions/apprehension I may have are answered/settled with good explanations.

The program is very educational and fun to use. It gives me the assurance that my return is correct even though I'm not a tax expert. I have used Turbo Tax to prepare my returns for the last 10 years. Always end with a satisfying feeling. Thanks Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: Extra features aimed toward better security. Always a thorough program and delightful to use.
What's not so great: NONE

Needs improvement

It is pretty good, but I have nothing else to compare it to, except I didn't know my return had been rejected until 10 days later when I started looking for some reason why I hadn't heard from anyone.
It took 19 pages to print out what used to be a 3 page form. What's with that?
I had to work through and spend a lot of time trying to figure out what you were talking about re: a PIN, only to find out that I didn't need a PIN, but I did need some number from last year's tax statement, but that was requested very vaguely and was a very unusual thing to ask with no explanation of why they were doing that and how did they think up that way of doing things. Time wasted it seemed to me.
I had difficulty in reporting 2 royalties as there was only one opportunity to fill in one property (which is NOT real estate, but gas wells). The second royalty was very stressful and time consuming to try to figure out how I was going to report it if there was no question to answer with my information.
I wasn't sure if my return had been received as I didn't get any notification that it had as it has in prior years. This year's version didn't seem to have all the options of years past.
But we got through it now, I hope. Still not sure how I will know if it was received or not, and how long will I have to wait to see the return?
What's great about it: Finally was able to work through the problems
What's not so great: 1. Didn't know my return had been rejected until 10 days after the fact. No email notification.

TurboTax through the Years
on April 9, 2016
Posted by: CindyPR
I am a long time user of Turbo Tax, it having first been recommended by a CPA friend more than a decade ago. While I watch others prepare their documentation and then take it to an accountant and pay a large fee, I sit in my comfortable home, prepare my documentation, and work on Turbo Tax on my time frame. If I should need further documentation, my files are handy. The difference in fees is substantial and I sacrifice nothing by doing it myself because of the excellent support, both in documentation with the program as well as extra help online, should I need it. I never do.
What's great about it: Clear, concise instructions with extra information, if needed
What's not so great: Extra filing fee for state return

We have used TurboTax for years and have been very satisfied. This year's edition is remarkably improved with its straight forward questions and format. This was the easiest return for us yet!
What's great about it: Questions were not ambiguous. Answer boxes clarified any questions.
What's not so great: None come to mind.
