Needs to be much better at handling foreign income

I am a US resident with US and foreign income. There are lots of immigrants to the US in a similar situation. Even after reading lots of Help comments It was real difficult to find the correct way way to enter Canadian-source interest, Canadian company pension income (with withholding tax) and Self-Employment foreign revenue (without any withholding tax). It was made even more difficult because that Canadian company has no US Payer Identification Number (IEN) - which would have prevented me from e-filing if at the end (in despair) I had not copied the IEN from that company's US partner, from whom I get a US pension - which I hope is acceptable. I worry about what I will have to do in TT when I start receiving my Canadian government pension (while it will be easy for my US Social Security) It looks like TT did a good job for Canadian RRSPs (which I will start using in a few years) - so a little TT effort to handle the above foreign income issues would greatly improve TT.
What's great about it: Works quite well for US-based income and revenues.
What's not so great: Needs to be much better at handling foreign income.

I could not easily discern how Turbo Tax handles exceptions between State and Federal filings on things like Social Security , Personal Property and other issues.
What's great about it: Pulling in Info is easy and previously entered data is available, except amouts listed under donationations
What's not so great: Exceptions between Federal and State not Clear

Last two years have had 529 calculation problems. Last year ended up talking to Sr. Accountant at turbotax and he agreed they had an issue. This year there was a different problem and we finally found a work around on the forum.
What's great about it: Does state work fairly well
What's not so great: Problems with 529 calculations

Generally good but foreign tax needs work
on April 8, 2016

Every year there is an issue with the foreign tax credit. It has improved slightly but could still do more. Once it asks for foreign income, it should know if you need to adjust and be able to do that - or at least to ask for the information that would make it possible. WORSE this year was that after I filed electronically, although I had saved, the entries on the second page of my foreign tax credit form disappeared as did my tax credit. Suddenly TTax was showing me owing more money because they removed the credit from my 1040. I didn't even know which amount had been transmitted to the IRS (fortunately the correct one.) I went back into the program and all of the income and tax information was still there but the number at the bottom of p. 1 of the form didn't carry over to the top of p. 2 for some inexplicable reason. I checked all the numbers and it was still wrong. So I deleted both the 1116 worksheet and the form, went through the numbers again (didn't change any entries) and then it appeared back the way it had with the page 2 info there. I don't understand why that happened and it is disconcerting. I have used TT for years and not had this problem.
What's great about it: Importing information and covering multiple topics
What's not so great: Foreign tax credit program should adjust income and program dropped my credit
Pros: I bought or sold investments

This year's phone help was greatly improved over last year. From the time I left my number to the call back was less then a minute. The person was very helpful at answering the question.
What's great about it: Asks me question my tax preparer never did.
