Complaints of a first time user

For several years I was a volunteer in the VITA program-I instructed other volunteers and prepared returns. At that time the IRS had its own program (don't remember what it was called) and it was terrible. TT is much better, easier to use and faster. The organizational progression and prompts are very good. I did not use, and can't comment on your more detailed explanations of tax questions. I use Pub 17 on-line if I have a question. I could not easily close the program and restart and return to work after a break. I tried to do so and it took at least seven minutes to luck into the key strokes to resume work on my return. All told, I think Iwasted about 30 minutes on this over the sessions . I tried to find some instructions on line to help me with access with no success. I could not even find a telephone number.
It was very annoying to get repeated messages that an update was available. Most of these appeared when I was trying to reenter the system - it would not accept a "not now" (or the like.

What's great about it: Fast and accurate. the prompts/instructions are good.
What's not so great: If i stopped at any point I had difficulty getting back to TT.

So easy to use!

I breezed through my return this year. Easy to fill out sections and had references if there were any questions.
What's great about it: Program walks you thru each section.
What's not so great: Lots of sections

When you find yourself in need of help, you may lucky and get a qualified representative, or you may get one who knows less than yourself. This year I've encountered two good ones, three bad. Not the best average, I've used TurboTax since 2005, but I'm seriously considering a different product for next year.
What's not so great: Charges subtantial additional fee to e-file state return.

Compare to US averages: used to have a picture at the tail end before exiting. Please consider bringing it back!
Have been using Turbo Tax since it started. Would use nothing else :-)
What's great about it: easy to follow for determining and entering data

So Easy

I've used Turbo Tax for a number of years and plan to continue using it. It 'walks' you through all the steps and even checks afterwards to make sure nothing was missed.

my 2015 TurboTax experience

I have never had this experience before with TurboTax, but this year even frequent saves did not always preserve entries from a previous session. Re-entering data is REALLY ANNOYING. Finally I took advice I found on-line and did not ever quit the application nor ever shut down the computer. I kept the computer running and the app open until I finished the tax job. This is new and frankly a pretty poor experience, compared to past years. Why it cannot save, I have no idea, but am seriously considering some other tax application for the future.
What's great about it: as always, complex issues were handled
What's not so great: the app seemed to lose entries repeatedly

Have used for years and generally no problems. Not being a tax expert sometimes hard to understand if getting proper deductions and proper credits for taxes paid.
What's great about it: easy to maneuver
What's not so great: sometimes hard to figure out where to find an answer
