lots of extra questions

Once you knew the answers to the questions on 1099-r forms the rest was great.
What's not so great: lots of extra questions on 1099-R forms

What's great about it: worked through all
What's not so great: had trouble with 1099-B Cost or other basis even when imported went to employer fund web site and found data!

Surprise charges but overall fine

Overall this was fine and expected. The explanations around being a freelancer vs a small business, and what could be written off, weren't as clear as I would have liked. Also I didn't like being charged for a 2nd state return then being charged again to efile that return 5 mins later.
What's great about it: feel confident this was thorough
What's not so great: confused as to whether freelance & small business were the same. surprised to find i had to pay for 2nd state & efiling

I highly recommend Turbo Tax! I used to do everything by hand until I saw the light and made the purchase. Turbo Tax saves a lot of time and headaches.
What's great about it: Easy to follow and thorough.
What's not so great: Hard to phone in and get a live person.

2015 taxes

Last year if you downloaded its-deductable and later added data and did a new download one would see duplicate. I did not test this out this year. I am not sure what would happen.
On schedule A for its deductable description is very general. I assume this is all that is needed.
What's great about it: Forms were easy to access
What's not so great: It-deductable. Not sure what would happen if you downloaded it twice.

2015 Deluxe vs Premier

It seems that last years return went much smoother probably because I upgraded to Premier. After reading reviews regarding changes made by Turbo Tax for this year I decided that I could get by with the Deluxe version. I was able to complete the return but with considerable effort

User Friendly and a Little Funny

The interface is fantastic - clean, simple, and helpful. The help pop-up boxes were indeed helpful and led to the right answer.
The state of Michigan questionnaire was a bit too complicated. There were questions asking about healthcare premiums and auto insurance that took time and effort to track down, but made no difference in the return.
What's great about it: The interface is very user friendly and simply walked through the process.
What's not so great: There were some obscure questions on the Michigan tax form
