Estimated tax problems
on April 5, 2016
Posted by: PeteGers
Although the tax forms correctly reflect my selection to apply my refund to estimated tax, the estimated tax vouchers that it printed would not reflect that selection in the Federal Form. I worked correctly in the California state form. This is the first year that I encountered this problem.
What's great about it: Generally a good program that I have been using for at least 30 years

Excellent package for the money - easy to use.
What's great about it: easy step-through, predictable, consistent, confidence builder.
What's not so great: None with turboTax, just don't like doing my taxes...

Increasingly Complicated
on April 5, 2016

The program seems to be growing less user friendly over the years. Questions are asked and the explanation as to why is unclear. The program makes errors. (Showed me with a disability exclusion when I answered "NO" to the disability question. Data source for some numbers sends you to the page but not the line, so searching is required. After 9 years with this software, I may have to try something else.
What's great about it: Transferred last years info.
What's not so great: A lot of unneccessary questions based on scenarios eliminated by previous questions

Walks with you side by side!

We have been using TurboTax for about 5 years now. It brings forward the prior years information to save time on data entry. I love the prior years side by side comparison - have caught things I left off.
Overall a great product!
One suggestion: see if you can get IRS data retrieval like they are able to do with the FASFA now. Where it uploads and prefills in the tax into the return.
What's great about it: Easy instructions, Compares with previous years, Double checks for errors & show level of risk of audit.
What's not so great: none

Easy to use

Easy to use but I do not feel too secure when I transmitted my brokerage information from my brokerage firm to turbo tax. However, it is the easiest way to fill out the 1099.
What's great about it: Easy to use

I will always use Turbo Tax as it completely explains every detail and walks you thru the process step by step. Knowing my tax return is being checked for errors eases the stress.
What's great about it: The ease of knowin it is checked for accuracy.

Intuit account access problem
on April 5, 2016
Posted by: happylouie
It seems the software has changed its interview from last year. Many more hoops to jump thru and was frustrated by inability to complete filing in last step -- could not access Intuit account so filing was stalled. Was required to provide both email address as well as password which hadn't been recorded. Wasn't needed for filing last year. Then 1st security question failed, though 2nd worked, but session timed out before I could complete transmitting returns. Tried completing return transmission, but elected not to logon to my account. A little more help would be helpful.
What's great about it: I was glad my refunds increased
What's not so great: Could not logon to Intuit account, tho password was required, couldn't reset it and session timed out

I've been using TT for many years. In the last 2, I tried to save time and effort and go to a professional. However, I came back because TT saves you most of the time where even professionals can't save you from investing any time into this.
While it does most of the complexity for you, it did not notice it imported a double entry for some 1099 form, which could have cost us dearly. They still upsell all sorts of additional services when it does not suits me. AND THEY STILL CHARGE EXTRA TO FILE A STATE.
What's great about it: Does most of the complexity for you
What's not so great: You still need to know a little bit what you are doing
