Have been using TurboTax for nine (9) years now. I am very satisfied.
What's great about it: carryover of information from previous year
What's not so great: the section where user has to enter info on short term capital gains had me confused
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

An incredibly difficult process

I have been using Turbo Tax for at least 10 years and always had a good experience. This year it was nearly impossible. I had difficulty installing it. I had to walk away from the computer without it saving my input on numerous occasions. I had used the help feature in the past but this year it was no use. All I got was set answers to typical questions. I have a simple return with no deductions since I paid of my home. I am a retired Math Professor who taught computer programming so I am no dummy. I you don't clean up your act, I will not use Turbo Tax in the future.
What's great about it: Nothing good to say this year
What's not so great: Difficult to instal, impossible to save, spent time updating even if I used it more than once in the same day

TurboTax makes it easy again!!

The TT folks have made major improvements this year. The overall program seemed much more user-friendly and helpful, especially for people like me who don't sit down and finish my taxes in one session; usually it takes several weeks due to distractions and missing docs. I would like to have been able to see the 21 pages, which were sent to the IRS, on my monitor instead of having to print them for my final review; that would have avoided reprinting after the return was filed, which I chose not to do. I would also have liked to print some screens for reminders. Overall, it was a very satisfying experience this year and I look forward to using TT next year. (Note to TT staff: I hope your hamsters get a treat after you read my review here.)
What's great about it: more helpful info this year; love previous year's transfer of info, esp. for investments
What's not so great: No option to print some of the screens; would have liked a list of major changes in the program this year

Not as complete as it once was

The program did not deduct the remaining balance of amortized mortgage points for a refinanced mortgage, even though I entered a date for the refinance. I had to go back and manually enter the amount. I have used Turbo Tax for a number of years and was disappointed that it's carryforward features seem to be less reliable than earlier versions.

I have used your product for several years ,this year seemed the most confusing.
my previous years return would not transfer to this year, that put me off to a bad start , having to enter everything and comparing to last years printed copy.
I might try something else next year .

What's not so great: some things are confusing to us non-accountants

Fantastic!!

Never did Turbo Tax before. I'm feeling pretty proud, because I did MY OWN taxes for the very first time, and I'm 50 years old. Well, did it with the help of my BF, but Turbo Tax was Easy. It did take a little bit longer than I saw him do it (but he's been using Turbo Tax for years). I will definitely USE Turbo Tax again. Thank you~
What's great about it: Easy.
What's not so great: Too me too Long.

e-filing Federal tax form

Turbo Tax was working fine and it seems to get easier each year; however, am very frustrated because it won't let me e-file my Mother's tax form because she doesn't have a driver's license. This has been very time-consuming trying to solve this problem. The advice that was given does not work. I think this is a problem for a lot of people and should be corrected asap.
What's great about it: does great if you have a driver's license
What's not so great: big thumbs down when you don't have a driver's license, it won't let you e-file.
