TurboTax is a great thing, but there are some areas where a little more information would be helpful:
More details on the carry forward of LTCG losses and how they are assigned against current income would be helpful. In 2015, I had deductions far in excess of my income, and I also had a large LTCG carry forward from 2014. I would like to have had the latter carried forward to a future year when I had more income, but could not find any help on that. So, my excess deductions are lost.
I wanted to review my return before it was eFiled. But the process of getting it up was so complex that I gave up. Then, there was no obvious way to return to the closing (filing) process.
Very frustrating end to an otherwise very satisfactory. experience with TT.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Love Turbo Tax. I've used it for years and its always easy and quick to do my taxes. Also provides a lot of helpful tips. The only issue I have is that you have to now buy the Deluxe version to get a state return which the cost difference is almost double.
What's great about it: Easy, quick, helpful
What's not so great: cost, have to buy deluxe to get state
Pros: I moved

Tough to file pension income from foreign sources
on April 4, 2016

I just finished a three-year nightmare with the IRS when I filed my pension from the UN and my wife's pension from the German Government as "Additional Income." They hit me with self-employment insurance, etc. I kept writing and explaining that this was pension income and there were no 1099Rs with the funds. This year I think I managed to put this income in the pension category. But, it is really difficult when you ask for the state and zip code of the source of my wife's income which is Berlin, Germany. And the UN only issues a "Statement of Benefits." I hope I won't regret using Turbo Tax this year.
What's great about it: I really like the automatic download from Schwab
What's not so great: Very difficult to file pension income from the German Government and the United Nations

Probably the best product available, but watch your pocket. For my small consulting business, I don't need the "Deluxe" version yet TurboTax implies that you do.
It's bad enough that the price of the product increases each year but this year because the product is available in only the Federal and State version, I had no choice.
What's great about it: Good review and explanation of required entries
What's not so great: Constant upsell

Could Easily Be Made Better

This customer did not provide a text review.
What's great about it: It greatly facilitates filing taxes in what must be the most complex and bloated set of tax laws in the world
What's not so great: Does not allow one to easily skip areas that you know do not apply. Does a poor job on state (GA) taxes.
