I have used it for about 6 years now. The fact that I return each years means I like it. Don't have to worry about which forms to use and where to get them. This is the first year I hd an error of no state ID. Problem was that i couldn't figure out where to correct the error. After going to bed and let ting it rest for a week I went back and redid it and re entered all of the income events and got it right this time. Also I wish it would do a better job of telling me that the standard deduction is what I want and showing me how much my iitemizing is short of the amount of my standard deduction so I wouldn't waste time trying to itemize.
What's great about it: Did all the hard part of asking the questions and letting me fill in the answers
What's not so great: Hard to correct an error it found

Still a solid product

I needed to check the detail calculation for my state tax due. I could not find it, I am sure it is there, but is was not intuitive to locate. I finally went to the state web site to pull up the tax table. I would think just double clicking on the calculation line/cell would then drill down to the calculation sheet. That would be nice.
What's great about it: I like the step by step choice.

One hour

It took about an hour to file my taxes. Awesome. Just make sure you have all your documents ready. I did have to go find a couple. If I had them ready, I would have finished my taxes in less than an hour.
What's great about it: Easy
What's not so great: Lots of lines I don't use, but I understand why you have to ask the questions.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Taxes Made Simple

I started using Turbo Tax a few years ago when a friend suggested it and I am hooked on it now. I am extremely satisfied with the way I am prompted for every possible deduction I can take and each deduction or reasoning is explained to me. I am not an accounting, but Turbo Tax sure makes me feel SMART!
What's great about it: Prompted me for every possible deduction I could take.
What's not so great: My computer is older and I had delays in waiting for loading.

Frustrated this year

Been a user for many years. Like the format. Generally deluxe or premium meet my needs.
This year I found the foreign tax credit on dividends highly problematic. With several taxes from the same country and multiple accounts from the same broker, it was a guessing game to try and match the amounts with the wholly inadequate information displayed. As a result, to get about $450 credit took over six hours of trial and error and form checking. Unacceptable.
Had many problems with carry over costs, especially to the state. In the end, I gave up some carry over as I could not tell exactly what it was. A capital gains carryover< I think I found after several hours, and manually input into the state.
The program kept finding errors that had nothing to do with my input but inconsistent data transfer, especially between the fed and CA.
WIll have to think hard if I try TurboTax next year. Been using it for about 20y or so.
What's great about it: Have been a loyal user for many years. Basic format has not changed, step by step instructions generally clear.
What's not so great: Foreign tax on dividends was a nightmare. Carry over information did not transfer properly to state.

TurboTax is FANTASTIC!!!

I've been a loyal TurboTax user for more than a decade, I LOVE this software. No more searching for forms, and the import from last year feature is always a time saver. Also having a quick comparison to last year's return is helpful. I'm sure most of the tax software programs out there are competent, but I've NEVER had any issues with TurboTax, and if it ain't broke I have no intentions of switching!
What's great about it: Easy to use, helps find me money!!!, no more searching for forms!
What's not so great: The U.S. tax code is complicated and confusing, TurboTax can't completely eliminate this part of the process

Turbo Tax never fails in its easy to use interface, and intuitive menus and options. I've occasionally used two other competitors over the past 20 years, but I always returned to the consistently best program overall.
What's great about it: Ease of use, great layout
