Just make sure you review the forms after easystep. Entry errors are easier to find when reviewing the forms.

In the above "Con", I just wish it told me ahead of time we'd need $12,600.00 worth of deductions so I wouldn't have to dig out all the Car Registrations and Charity records and other items. But, I use Turbo Tax every year and do the same thing but forget until I get to the end of Deductions...so it's on me really.
What's great about it: Best Calculator Ever! Help & More Info areas are short & simple.
What's not so great: Goes through all deductions before telling me Standard Deduction gets me bigger refund.

Was easy for the most part. Some of the questions I had to read and reread and go over again. Maybe a video when you click on "whats this" or whatever it said
What's great about it: Was cheaper then going to someone to have it done
What's not so great: Somethings I just didn't understand

Good, but still problems

We closed one IRA account and moved the money to a different bank. Last year the program knew what to do. This year it demanded I answer questions, and none of the selections were correct. I had to go back and delete the download.
What's great about it: Easy to enter data
What's not so great: Does not handle the data well when it gets it from the bank directly

Quick and easy federal ans state taxes . Done in few hours, but disappointed with the charge to file state taxes...
What's great about it: Quick easy and done!
What's not so great: Only con is the cost of e-filing with state... too expensive for little return.

We used TurboTax for several years and each year the interface has been waaaaay easier to use than finding and filling out the forms manually. The calculation checking feature is nice, and this year they even caught a minor mistake we didn't notice.
It would be great if we didn't have to use this software because Congress finally passed the Fair Tax proposal but until then, TurboTax makes it easy to do your taxes.
What's great about it: TurboTax is easy to use
What's not so great: STILL no Fair Tax :(

Straightforward way to complete one's taxes

TurboTax Deluxe fortunately covers many important tax topics. It will do a basic Schedule C and D. It will manage OID for taxable bonds automatically. It does AMT. I could not find any help for OID, bond premium, and bond amortization for tax-exempt bonds. The application wants to sell you upgrades as you go along but it isn't super clear if you really need those. (The specific conditions that would be correct for upgrading are none too specifically stated. For example, I would guess that if you hire people in your schedule C business, you might need Home and Business edition, but if you are like me and the whole business is just one person -- you -- you might not. But you'll be encouraged to upgrade anyway.) Not every line on every form has a help topic or explanation -- that would be really nice and seemingly not that difficult to do. I wanted to go back and see how a number was calculated, and I couldn't. (Example: Michigan Schedule 1 has an addition to income for municipal bonds from other states; no apparent way to see how TurboTax calculated that number. It didn't match what I thought it should be from the data I entered into EasyStep -- I am sure TurboTax is correct but it would be nice to know how it was done.) Regardless of these few quibbles, the EasyStep works great and is quite efficient. Generally every box with a number in it on the form you receive translates into a box in EasyStep; or you can download some financial forms directly into EasyStep which is particularly great if you have any accounts where a lot of stock trading is done. Online filing is easy. Application runs smoothly on Macintosh. Have used this product since 1991 (when it was MacInTax) and always been satisfied.
What's great about it: Quick, easy, some good help topics
What's not so great: Not every line has help. Some numbers cannot be traced back to their origins.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
