Only Way to File
on April 1, 2016

I have used TurboTax for years and years. I have been able to navigate successfully and easily all the tax issues associated with the typical life changes one encounters. The printed form versions of taxes, federal and state, have become so wordy, complex, and convoluted that it is very hard for a non-professional preparer to get through the tax season. With TurboTax, I'm alerted to connected tax situations that I would have otherwise missed. The order of completing the forms is made very simple. The math always works. Accurate re-entry of last year's data saves considerable time. I can quickly try strategies for next year so that my tax situation is either less complex or so that I am able to save more of my income. Federal and state taxes (sometimes multiple state taxes) are seamlessly integrated. And, just having the forms and e-filing features makes tax filing much simpler. I am a completely satisfied customer!
What's great about it: Covers all the life situations I've had: births, education loans, moving, home ownership, and retirement.
What's not so great: This year the language used in the CT state return is more difficult to understand than with the federal return.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

First Ever Problem; Still Love Turbo Tax
on April 1, 2016

I am a long-time Turbo Taxer, including several years as a sole proprietor of a small business. For the first time this year, I had a software problem that caused a faulty save of my file after having completed the income section and started on deductions and credits. I spent nearly an hour on day 2 of Turbo Tax input with customer service agent Alissa (sp?), who courteously and successfully got me going again. Regrettably, I did lose the first day's inputs. Still, after 20 years or so of using Turbo Tax, and with perfection as the goal, I accept that one year with a problem is an acceptable performance record. I'll be back next year!
What's great about it: Walk-Through is thorough, yet still easy to complete
What's not so great: For first time in the 15 or 20 years I've been using Turbo Tax, I had a software problem this year

The automatic and compulsory update for the mac is annoying, and does not work properly. Frequently I have had to reboot my computer, and had to remember to open the application from the Applications directory rather than double clicking on the return I wanted to work on (it would show "Updating" and then nothing would happen, and I would have to force quit). On the good side, I have income from several countries, and it was relatively easy to enter the information and submit the return.
What's great about it: Can handle my complicated income situation
What's not so great: Fails to open return by double-clicking
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
