Taxes done easily

I've been using Turbo Tax for years. I feel relaxed doing my taxes in the privacy of my home and not sitting with a tax preparation professional.
What's great about it: Step by step explanation for all the intricacies of the tax code
What's not so great: Not really good at pointing out loopholes

Have used turbo tax for all but one of the last 10 years. The one I used that year just didn't match the ease of turbo tax
What's great about it: For my needs this is easiest program I have ever used
What's not so great: none

Not as good as previous versions

In previous years the user could easily toggle from Easy Step to Forms and back again. If you were in Easy Step and wanted to see how your inputs showed on the form, there was a shortcut button that took you right to the spot and then back again. That feature is no longer there so I ended up having to search for the relevant form and printed out my return multiple times for proof-checking. Took MUCH longer and a big waste of paper and ink.
The IRA section was also very confusing this year. In previous years it would specifically reference which IRA the question was referring to. When filing MFJ, you can have multiple IRA submissions. It would start with one IRA (the taxpayers) but then would ask a question about a different IRA (the spouses). Sometimes it would ask a question about 'the distribution' but didn't reference whether it was from the traditional IRA or the Roth IRA and whose it was. Again, I had to go through it probably 25 times, review the forms 25 different times, before I finally got the right answers inserted to the right questions. Massively confusing and a large degradation in quality of the product. I don't ever remember having this issue before.
What's great about it: Like the continuity from year to year
What's not so great: Lost some good features this year

great program for getting returns completed but the electronic filing process was a burden I thought it would be easier but mailing seems more efficient.
What's great about it: comprehensive tax prep
What's not so great: Electonic filing was too cumbersome I almost cancelled the process twice out of fustration.
Pros: I moved

Mainstay for Years

I am a TurboTax user for more than twenty (20) years so any reader easily can conclude that I am biased. The bias, however, is not without reason. This product has been dependable and, except for a slight cost efficiency glitch in the late 1990's, has remained competitive and up-to-date the entire time. 'Nuf said.
What's great about it: Thorough, helpful, easy to navigate

Just a couple things

On 1099 Div which had both tax exempt dividends and foreign taxes paid I couldn't input the data as desired. I missed some info initially (which was imported) and when I tried to do it via edit I couldn't input all needed data
What's great about it: overall easy to input
What's not so great: handling foreign tax credit vs deduction and tax exempt dividends seemed to have issues

Joann was informative and patient in answering the questions I had. I hope she's there next year.
What's great about it: detailed
What's not so great: some forms (state income tax) confusing
