Tricky with multiple states
on March 29, 2016

I LOVE TT and wouldn't use anything else- BUT- the last 2 years we've had multiple states and when I KNEW (from experience) that something was off, I had to have the confidence to review forms and spot what was in error- (not sure if it was entry or application) - This time when I changed Allocation to state (it had added it - UPPING total income) I had to delete my resident state and start over to make it release OLD numbers...Not sure a Newbie would be able or confident enough to doubt the tax due as I was, and they may pay too much.
What's great about it: Indepth- gets EVERY deduction
What's not so great: Changes can confuse it
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Best Year Yet!
on March 29, 2016

I used H&R Block's tax software for many years (all the way back to when it was Kiplinger). However, after trying TurboTax last year, I was not going back. Normally I express several expletives when doing my taxes, even with software. This was my best tax year yet....not a single expletive!
What's great about it: Importing all 1099s directly from my financial instituions
What's not so great: Putting in deduction information that resulted in no deductions

Menu
on March 29, 2016

It sailed thru without showing me Rentals, and did not remind me of mortgage interest. If you dont know what you must have, you can easily omit it with no master menu running or check list. Your summary of each section is insufficient,.
What's great about it: If you know what you need then its available in search box
What's not so great: No reminders of omitted topics

Frankly the least painful filing experience in memory.
What's great about it: Clearly laid out, logical question progression, easily progressed forward or backward in the return

Turbo Tax EZ
on March 29, 2016
Posted by: TowandaStan
Turbo Tax is EZ since from year to year it imports data that you normally have to hand enter and reminds you of items you deducted the last year but didn't remember to do this year.
What's great about it: Remembers information from year to year
What's not so great: with many updates I wonder if I have the last and best once I file in late March

Overall, good...troubling updating and importing
What's great about it: It was very helpful with going step by step
What's not so great: I had bought the software at Walmart and it had a hard time updating when I loaded it on my computer. It couldn't import
