An aspirin for my tax headache!

I have used TurboTax for many years now. Sure beats the expense and hassle of going to a tax service. Also makes dealing with some of the weird investment and IRA forms we get easy. Otherwise I would have no idea what forms to use and how to fill them out. Sure helps to make the ominous tax time a lot less scary!
What's great about it: Makes tax prep a LOT less mind-numbing.
What's not so great: E-file is a little pricey.

The Only Sensible Way to Handle Taxes

I've been using TurboTax to fill out my forms and the forms of friends and family members for ten years or so. The software doesn't fill out my taxes-- BUT it helps me a great deal. I don't have to worry about a silly math error or an amount I've forgotten to move to a different form. It's very, very good-- but not absolutely perfect. I managed to confuse it this year by changing filing state and it still wanted me to fill out taxes for the original state. It wasn't hard to work around. There may be competitors out there with good products but why would I ever switch when the product gives me great value and gets better year to year. That's the sort of thing I'm inclined to support with my customer loyalty!
What's great about it: Software doing what software does best...
What's not so great: It's not perfect... yet

Been using Turbo Tax for well over 20 years and it's still the best there is!
What's great about it: Walks the taxpayer through the process
What's not so great: Gets complicated using the E-file module

RMD or MRD and Retirement plans

.Need to better differentiate IRAs, 401(k)s, TSAs, and government or private fixed retirement plans for persons over 70 1/2. RMD (MRD) questions are misleading.
What's great about it: Simple, straight forward menu system. Downloading institutions' forms save typos.
What's not so great: confusing handling of 1099-R

Personal View Turbo Tax/Intuit Products

Overall, highly recommend Intuit Products, all of which I have used at one time or another. Since retired, Quicken and Turbo Tax are my familiar systems.
What's great about it: Very easy to understand and follow. Have used products for over 15 years.
What's not so great: Getting to website could be easier.
