I had my records all together in one place and I just had to fill in the requested blanks. Answer all questions honestly and accurately.
What's great about it: I received a refund much larger than I imagined. It was 10 times last years refund.

Hangups and Mysteries

1. App froze at least twice on "calculating" spinning wheel.
2. No explanation for why my state tax was so high. I guessed it was because I deducted owed taxes from last year, but had to go back and check the completed forms to confirm.
What's great about it: Very quick and enabled download of investment data.
What's not so great: App freeze. Mystery increase in tax due.

save your sanity and use Turbo

While the TAXES are still a labyrinthine mess and only getting worse at least with Turbo I can go in and out of my tax preparation when I have the time, when I'm not stressed, when I can get all my materials together. Next year I will be dealing with retirement funds, an expanded IRA contribution, annuity payments, I can only hope Turbo will get me through that one too!
What's great about it: inexpensive and done at your time schedule
What's not so great: still taxes!

ZIPCODE PROBLEMS

Because I live in Canada and have a Canadian address the program will not let me file my return via E-file because my Canadian postal code is not recognised at that part of the process. Earlier in the program Turbotax accepts Canadian postal codes, but not when it is at the stage of e-filing. Why?
What's great about it: I have been using Turbotax (U.S.) for years. It works well.
What's not so great: Inflexible features when it comes to zip codes outside the U.S.

What's great about it: I always like the way it walks you thru everything and how it handles carryovers from prior years.
What's not so great: Sometimes its hard to follow explanations. When I ask questions, I don't always get the answers that I want. Other use

Foreign Tax Credit Disaster

Despite years of effort with this form 1116, Turbot tax still cannot come up with an easy way of obtaining a tax credit. Wasted hours on this section, finally having to file by mail.

Intuitive as Always

Again for 2015, Turbo Tax Deluxe takes you through all of the steps to enter personal information then income from W-2s, 1099s, interest, dividends, and results of stock and bond transactions and then the plethora of deductions. Excellent user interface and feedback on progress and refund meter which updates after each entry. Simple e-file process with feedback on acceptance by IRS. Happy user for more than 15 years.
What's great about it: Intuitive, logical, flexible

An afternoon well spent

Have been using TurboTax for several years - since retiring (over a decade, now) and it certainly makes filing pretty simple, quick, accurate and pretty easy - mostly. The only "complaint" I have is that I can't print a page/topic/"receipt"/etc. as I go along - I've only been able to print the final tax form submission to keep for my records.
What's great about it: Quick - Easy - Accurate - Painless (almost) - Almost Fun
What's not so great: Can't print items/pages/topics/screens/etc. as you go along - can only print the completed form(s).
