Not as good as in past
What's great about it: updates
What's not so great: pushed too much for pym for state tax
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Difficult Questions

Any difficult question can be answered with a phone call. Discuss your issue with a tax specialist and they will help you fill out your return. Priceless.
What's great about it: A phone call connects you to a tax pro who will walk you through lines and content.
What's not so great: Nothing.

Clunky this Year!
on March 28, 2016

I've used Turbo Tax for 10 + years and it seemed troubled this year. I suffered frequent lockups where I had to shut down TT 2015 and restart to get moving; there were some screens where columns of numbers were wrapped prematurely and numbers were hard to read; the prompts/questions around the 1099MISC form were obtuse ("do you intend to make a profit" (everyone does) vs "is this an ongoing, profit-making venture.")
Is this in part SW version incompatibilities? If so, highlight what's needed.
What's great about it: Still the straightforward TT approach and layout.
What's not so great: Troubled this year.

I would like to have been able to transfer my information from your online version. I have used that in the past, but this year chose to purchase your product in-store. The ability to access my previous information from the online version would have been a HUGE timesaver.
What's great about it: Less expensive than other tax preparation
What's not so great: Unable to transfer info from TurboTax online version

Didn't detect mistakes

1. A person is someone else's dependent (didn't' take the exemption), but that person's income is more than $4000. Based on IRS rule, no one clean claim this person as dependent since he earned more than $4000. Turbo tax doesn't find this error. 2. A dependent's SSN can't appear on his/her spouse's return. Or the person who claims that dependent can't file electronically. It is rejected by IRS telling you to change dependent SSN because they found this SSN in other form. Turbo tax should have picked this error on spouse's form.

The hard part is paying the tax

I did taxes for my wife, who has her own successful business, and me; my daughter and her new husband; and my son who is a pilot in the air force. Three really different situations. And lots of new things I have never even thought of before. Combining a household and the military created new questions. TurboTax made it really easy. I mean, really easy. Love the automatic downloads. Love the step by step instructions (found a deduction for my son-in-law and daughter that saved them $600)
On year I tried a different product. I hated it. As long as I have to pay taxes, I'll use TurboTax. For real!
What's great about it: Very clear what to do, very clear how to get help
What's not so great: I STILL HAVE TO PAY TAXES, which is part of being a US citizen, but doesn't make it less painful
