As usual, the most efficient way to file

TurboTax asked me how much of my tax-free interest was from CA investments. It gave me a number from which I could not determine its origin. It would have been nice for them to tell me how they came up with that number. Other than that, it was easy to do my taxes using TurboTax!
What's great about it: Guided entry
What's not so great: Some figures provided are confusing

Very user friendly

I have used TurboTax for many years now. It is so easy that you don't have to have any knowledge of tax return preparation. All you do is follow the easy steps. It's a no-brainer.
What's great about it: User friendly, can't get it wrong, accurate

Usually my return is pretty straightforward, but this year had a few unusual transactions that took more time to step through. More clarity on the questions regarding CA form FTB 593 and how the withholding should flow through the Federal and State forms would be good. If you get it in the wrong spot, it was hard to figure our where the withholding was and I had to go to the form itself to make the correction.
What's great about it: Easy step by step, just answer the questions. Don't guess, but mark estimates using the tool.
What's not so great: Questions on Sales of Real Estate could be clearer.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Was hard to understand how the investment imports work. Its Deductible integration was handy.
What's great about it: Helps you organize

Turbo Tax

I have been using turbo tax- probably since it was launched. I really like that it is generally consistent year to year and that it keeps the prior year history.
My biggest complaints have to do with special popup worksheets and also that it is trying to lead you through processes in very small steps- that if you are reasonably competent you probably don;t need so many pages etc. but overall
I also found the im finished I want to file to be a lttile roundabout and also - a little too much marketing. I already paid for the product- why do you keep badgering me? Also I have to pay $2k to the state- I am not going to pay $$ to efile so I can send them money. Yet the program keeps asking- a little annoying and frankly stupid

And requiring 4 letters for a name just dumb. My name is Ray. it is not 4 letters.....
What's great about it: Consistent year to year, easy to use. Easy to follow
What's not so great: Odd issues with some of the special worksheets.
