I bought H&R Block and Turbo Tax to compare

I bought both software and did my taxes twice to see which was better. Turbo Tax came out with a much better refund as well as was more user friendly to use. Updates are so much easier than HRB's software.
I especially liked the feature or ability to see/compare last years return as well as exactly what lines had entries for the income and deduction sections. This allowed me to go to specific lines and make quick entries knowing that my situation had not changed or that I had no major events occur since the previous year.
HRB's software does not have that feature. All their items are one big jumbled mess and you have no idea which ones you had made entries on or not. I will never buy H&R Block's software again. Turbo tax is the way to go.
What's great about it: User interface and ability to see/compare last years statement with the current year.

Most complicated year yet-still easy

I tried to convince my wife to use another tax professional service because we sold our house and moved. She insisted that this was good enough-as it has been for every one of the last 6-7 years. She was right. We didn't miss a trick, or a deduction, that I can see. Hopefully this proves true when Uncle Sam reads it over... It takes time and effort, but I feel like it was thorough and got me all of the money I had coming to me.
What's great about it: Detailed explanations of almost every single option
What's not so great: One or two vague spots that were not vital. ItsDeductible left me in a loop of password reset failures-used other e-mail
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

More problems this year than ever even though my taxes were simpler. I had to start over a number of times because the process would freeze when the calculating icon would pop up.
What's not so great: the calculating icon would pop up and nothing would happen

It's Easy

We have been using TurboTax for 10+ years. The first time we used TurboTax, it took forever to input the data and was very confusing.
Each year thereafter, it just get easier and easier. We retired, moved from CA, and later got rid of the rental property. Each change made next year's return smaller. Our biggest was 57 pages. This year was 13 pages.
This year, we input the data in one day, took a day off, then reviewed everything and filed on the next day..
What's great about it: Thanks to Prior Year Transfer, it was easy
What's not so great: First year is tough, after, it's a snap

Started out by not getting last year's refund correct and it is awkward to correct it.
It doesn't resume where I left off this year but has in previous years. So wind up wasting time going back through parts I've already done.
What's great about it: Good comparson to previous year. Taxes were easily done.
What's not so great: This year's version didn't pick off where I left off, which made getting back to where I stopped cumbersum.

What's not so great: How do I get rid of the section on owning a business? Neither me nor my wife own or operate a business.
