I think the 2015 version is much improved. I found it much easier and lots less frustrating to use this year. This is what taxes should be about, if we keep this 8 million page tax code...get Turbo Tax !
What's great about it: Easy to follow, lots of help menus
What's not so great: still took me 3 hours to complete
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I've used turbo tax for a long time. i love it because i can walk thru the entire tax documents and find tax information that i never thought of. i also like that i can see what i did last year without searching thru all my printed documents or searching my computer for saved ones. it reminds me of what i need to find for this year
What's great about it: walkthru
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Problem with TurboTax Deluxe error checking
on March 22, 2016
Posted by: allen7261
When I entered our taxable IRA distribution data, for some reason I neglected to enter the taxes withheld. TurboTax never questioned that missing data entry even through the entire federal tax error checking and auditing. I caught the error myself because the federal tax refund did not seem correct. The fact that TurboTax did not flag that missing entry really bothers me.
Even though we filed the federal return as married filing jointly, TurboTax filed our state return as married filing separately. The step by step procedure did not clearly indicate the state filing status. I caught that when I reviewed the actual state 1040 form. When I switched the state return to married filling jointly, our state tax refund jumped up by almost $300! Wow, what a mistake on TurboTax's end! I would have thought TurboTax would have made the correct choice of filling status to maximize our refund, but it did not!
These two issues certainly fly in the face of TurboTax's maximum refund guarantee.
I can only hope TurboTax will make the necessary corrections in their tax return programing.
What's great about it: Never had a problem in past 16 years of using TurboTax Deluxe.
What's not so great: Error checking missed two major mistakes.

Best solution for me

You should be able to click on an account that is appearing (that you no longer have), and have an option to delete that account, not just do an end run by entering zero (what I had to do) in it for income in the current year.
What's great about it: Easy to enter data, easy to download from financial institutions
What's not so great: An account I had in previous years (K-1 form) showed up, and it was very difficult to figure out how to delete it.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Thorough but frustrating

Version: Turbotax Deluxe 2015 for the Mac After many years of issuing Turbotax, Intuit has implicitly revealed that it is putting sufficient effort in keeping up with common tax law changes, but it has left the user frustrated and perhaps exposed to legal and financial difficulties in less routine situations. It is not improving, just providing minimal maintenance. Examples of complaints: 1. The Federal return is of better quality than the state return. 2. Navigation in the interview mode is poor. Sometimes, huge blocks of questions are skipped in the interview process. 3. An attempt to switch back from the amended mode to standard forms was nearly impossible. 4. Return wouldn't print. All spaces filled-in by this preparer was shown as little rectangles. 5. Some of the wording of the state return, in particular, was so terse, it was ambiguous. On occasion, one had to be technically trained in tax preparation to understand what the software was telling or suggesting. 6. Most, not all, of my problems were solved or ameliorated when I went to Turbotax's Q&A forum or to Google. But that should not be the case. Turbotax should stand on its own as a user-friendly mechanism for preparing tax returns. It should not be a springboard for doing research on how to solve more complicated problems or to working around glitches in the software.
What's great about it: Thorough in routine matters.
What's not so great: Could not handle rescissions of errors, user changes of direction
Pros: I bought or sold investments
