Messes things up every time
on December 19, 2015

Importing from Quickbooks, which is 90% of the reason to use Turbotax, messes things up every time. Turbotax's abilities to make corrections are extremely limited. Because it's set up like a step-by-step guide, you can't jump around and fix / compare things in multiple locations at once.
For instance: it'll tell you there's an error on a line in the return. That error is dependent on a number from another location, but you can't go to that other place and correct both numbers at once. So you end up fixing something, which creates another error, which you have to hunt down and fix. The final 30 minutes is spent on a bevy of manual overrides which I can only imagine are messing things up - all because the data wasn't imported correctly in the first place (which I can verify by looking at the numbers in the Quickbooks file).
Considering Intuit makes both TurboTax and Quickbooks, this is a ridiculous situation.
What's great about it: I suppose it gives plausible deniability for how assuredly messed up the returns are. Cheaper than an accountant.
What's not so great: Everything else.

First time using turbotax business - Grade A

I ordered the download software. Easy to download. Had helpful hints and explanations all throughout. Not as easy to jump around to different sections as I would have liked. A tutorial at beginning on how to move around if you need to come back and answer a question later or want to change an answer once completing all questions. However, overall I did like the program. As a lay person and not a tax expert, it was very explanatory along the way which helped in completing with confidence.
What's great about it: Really appreciated the "Explain This" sections as a first time user. Extremely helpful
What's not so great: Did not like guessing when/where and if it was saved as a PDF while trying to do over several days.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Really helpful

Never having prepared a balance sheet, I was unclear how to fix up the fact that my initial entries didn't balance. While I eventually worked it out, there could have been a better explanation of the theoretical basis. Other than that, everything else was really straightforward, basically plugging in the numbers. And the efiling was very convenient.
What's great about it: For a first time filer, the program really helped me through the steps easily, providing good information.
What's not so great: Explanations aren't always complete enough.

Still Confusing

Overall, I use TurboTax for filing business taxes because it still makes it easier than trying to file via paper and having to read and understand every IRS form. However, I wasted a lot of time trying to figure out how to balance my books. Turbotax never asks for or figures out how to subtract non-deductible expenses. For example last years Federal income tax paid and also I ended up paying a late fee because I didn't realize corporate taxes were due by March 15th and not April 15th like personal returns. Also, because of the automatic rounding my figures were still off by $8, even though the official forms use rounding I think when it comes to the book balancing section it should use the exact numbers to the penny so that I don't have to struggle with figuring out why it is off.
What's great about it: Easier than filing on paper and reading through all the rules
What's not so great: Balancing the books, didn't take into account taxes and penalties paid last year, rounding induced errors
