Good work on investment data entry
on March 22, 2016

Got confused about where to put foreign taxes withheld. Would have liked a notification that the regular tax section is not where foreign taxes withheld and will be coming up shortly.
What's great about it: much clearer appoach to investment data entry

2015 California Corporate Return
on March 22, 2016

Not well tested. Cannot select United States as country. Someone forgot to include our country in a pull-down menu. When returning to "guided" mode from "forms" mode in California software, one is returned to the Beginning of the state return, and one has to click their way through everything just to get back to where they were. This is painful when resolving issues. Also, I didn't owe any penalties, the form says do not fill out below if you don't owe penalties, yet the software flagged that as an error, requiring me to fill in the form, then objects to the entries I fill in, as if I owed penalties. This is definitely one of, if not THE worst California State editions I have seen in decades of use. Please pay more attention for 2016.
Thank you, Bob Korody
What's great about it: Federal Tax software is OK
What's not so great: California State software is worst in years
Pros: I bought or sold investments

merge business and personal software
on March 22, 2016

You should merge software for spouse-partnership LLC businesses with personal filing software. Having to buy separate software is not OK.
What's great about it: not much
What's not so great: not merged with personal tax return

TT for Business-Difficult To Use, Especially State
on March 23, 2016
Posted by: lkjgiewppw
In some areas the instructions are either too vague or non-existent. This is true in both fed and MA state products, but especially state. In a few cases, the error check flagged things that had never come up in the interview, and no guidance was provided as to how to fix them. I had to keep trying different entries until one of them worked and let me go to the next step. Very frustrating.
What's great about it: Cheaper than hiring accountant
What's not so great: Inadequate instructions and guidance; too much trial and error

Almost Perfect
on March 23, 2016

All in all using TurboTax for Business is far less painful than paying to have taxes prepared. It would be easier and more foolproof if Turbo Tax had the capability of entering 1099 info (dividends & interest) into the interview rather than having to go to Forms mode and enter it directly. Also, some K-1 info is not entered into Turbo Tax and must be done manually. Thus once you've entered info (say box 13) into the K-1 entry form you must go into forms mode and enter it again.
What's great about it: Complete Handling of Taxes
What's not so great: No Direct 1099 Entry; Some Manual Transfer of K-1 Info
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Links are needed
on March 23, 2016
Posted by: BobTaxRed
If a nother form is sugested provide a link to it. Don't talk about possible locations for the forms
If a word has a special meaning provide a link to the definition
Was this program written in 1980?
What's great about it: good math, you can see the forms as filled out
What's not so great: Need links
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Need a way to enter 1099- misc
on March 24, 2016
Posted by: irakenneth
I got a letter from the IRS saying my 1099-misc were not entered. I included them in my 8825 Line 2 but there was no way for them to verify this because TT does not have a way to put the 1099-misc in.
