Trust Return Missing Features
on April 14, 2016
Posted by: SBxxx
No way to import bond and stock sales - had to enter multiple sales manually
Tax summary box at the top of program has been removed. I think it was there last year. It was convenient to see how different decisions changed the taxes.

Turbo Tax Critique
on April 14, 2016
Posted by: Viv89
Ability to efile the tax returns and be confident you have included all information the IRS wants to see.
What's great about it: Calculations are done for you so you don't have to spend your time erasing and changing numbers.
What's not so great: Takes too long to input data when you don't use a lot of the forms and topics covered.

Tax made simple.

All you have to do is read the additional explanations in order to better understand each area. If that is not enough don't hesitate in calling them for help.
What's great about it: Everything you need to get it done.
What's not so great: Wait times on calling for support but not too bad.

Easy to use. Only downfall is that you can't use it if you are working on a Mac in the native OSx.
What's great about it: Quick and simple
What's not so great: Only works in Windows
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Decedents Estate SW Not up to Normal TT Standards
on April 14, 2016
Posted by: BCMomma
As a long-time user of TT (12 years) I have come to expect a certain level of ease-of-use from Intuit. There are many complicated legal and tax issues when someone dies, especially if trusts are involved. Using TT Business, I did successfully file estate taxes for my parent's trust, but there are clearly glitches in the software when a death is involved. For instance, when the basis is stepped-up for long-held securities, the software kicks out dates errors ... even having been provided "date of death" and importing the 1099-B from my financial institution. Also, decedent returns of any sort have to be filed by mail, but TT software let's the unsuspecting try to file electronically, only to be given an endless error loop. That being said, with a little persistence and help from TT, I was able to complete these returns accurately and saved a bundle by not having to hire an accountant.
What's great about it: I could DIY my parent's trust estate taxes.
What's not so great: It took some finagaling and help from TT support to actually file the 1041s.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Good straight forward walk through of the filing process.
What's great about it: transmitting the file and printing the completed forms
What's not so great: I didn't use TurboTax last year
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

TT Biz Ok But not As Good as the Personal Editions
on April 14, 2016
Posted by: Moirty
TT for Business has the maturity of TT Personal of many years ago. It has the forms and functionality but it still requires reading help files and IRS form descriptions for many entries.
A few specific comments::
-Configure to transpose forms (1099s, etc) like in the personal TT editions. Don't make us hunt and guess like on IRS forms.
-Provide option to password protect K1s when saved as PDFs.
-When finished filing the federal return, continue to file the state return rather than ending.
-State return must be mailed
What's great about it: Online and Systematic
What's not so great: Could be more User Friendly
Pros: I bought or sold investments
