We are going to try Turbo Tax again next year. Their help line was very helpful. We did have difficulty understanding mostly the business of an S Corp combined with personal
What's great about it: Unlimited amount of itemized questions
What's not so great: NOt always easy to understand when joining business and personal

More difficult than I expected

I purchased Turbo Tax to be able to import from quickbooks but was very dissapointed to find that the numbers imported did not match what quickbooks showed on my Balance sheet and P& L statement, so I had to do it manually. Really defeated the purpose
What's great about it: Imported from last years Turbo Tax
What's not so great: Could not import from Quickbooks

What the heck was sent? Extension or full return?

Copying over prior year was good, offering to add info from Quickbooks was good, doing the signature form was good, and e-filing is good concept.
BUT... a big NEGATIVE is that was very unclear to me what was being sent to the IRS. All I wanted to do was send in an extension with time to file within next 6 months.
I could have done a paper copy to put in the mail in a few minutes with no tax owed, but trusted to be able to e-file past closing of post office.
Logging in to my account kept throwing me into personal taxes and no option for business tax from my log-in. Had to Google and struggled to not throw me back into personal tax when logged in again. Buying the business software and downloading took down a different path and finally stopped throwing me into personal taxes.
Got prior year on my computer copied in, but was an XP box and so re-did on another newer computer Win10. --- Continued and software insisted that I go through all the various income, questions, deductions to help me know that I had zero to put on extension and no tax due.
When finally getting to point to e-file then the way worded was very confusing and what to print as tax forms showed all the various files. I went round and round trying to make sure was following right path. Said "extension", but list of forms in preview included everything. The final message said I filed my taxes, but what exactly did I file? I really have no idea if I only filed an extension or if you filed some form of tax return for me already.
Do I now file tax return or some amendment. I work in software and consider myself reasonably intelligent, but this was just extremely stressful and annoying.
I remember doing this last year and just saying "forget it" and doing on paper. In that respect... I HATE YOUR PRODUCT.
But... as far as when I finally want to do the return, then product is okay. It just isn't clear enough on some point. Software sends you down pathways repeatedly... when starting over.
I don't know if I'm alone in this problem, but really annoying.

What's great about it: Did e-file... maybe extension... can't tell
What's not so great: Really unfriendly at explaining what actually was sent to IRS
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Schedule K-1
on March 15, 2016

The max number of digits I can input in "shares" is 9 million. My corp has two shareholders and my filing when registering the business is 100 million shares and each holds 50 milion. This can not be input into Schedule K-1, and only numbers are accepted which is really silly. Why not make some abbreviations like k for 1000, mil for million etc?
What's not so great: Not enough space for numbers

Nice if it would have saved
on March 15, 2016

I thought the program auto saved the return I was working on. I had the program open for a few days, working on it here and there as I had some extra time. My computer unexpectedly shut down (evidently to install some updates), and when I went back into the program, there was no data file for my return. I was sure it must have been there somewhere, but after a call to TT and they could not locate it either, I had to start all over from scratch. An auto save feature would be nice to have on the next version!
What's great about it: Saved me from paying a tax preparer!
What's not so great: Lost a lot of initial work because I didn't save

Not what it used to be

TT is a shadow of its former self. Thankfully I have done our business taxes for enough years now that I can still get through it, but the help and support used to be so much better than what it is now.
