S-Corp filing... only a few problems
on March 14, 2016

Overall a great system to S-Corps, again, the only and BIGGEST problem is as a new business- Capital Contributions was mighty tough to find.. and it didnt show up on my K1.
What's great about it: collects all the data, and ensures its all balanced out!
What's not so great: Capital Contributions was a pain.. did I get it right? Dont Think So
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Needs tweaking

I do 2 companies with it and find it overall very easy to work. Small bug where for my construction company QuickBooks has a rental equipment category and Turbo Tax imports it as rental real estate expense!
What's great about it: easy to work with
What's not so great: not all catagories from Quickbooks compatible.

glad to have this system

buying software for the federal returns were pretty straightforward however, turbotax could be more upfront about charges for state returns.
What's great about it: simple to use, efile capability
What's not so great: very difficult to figure out how to specify transfer of investment properties
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Less useful for anyone with foreign assets
on March 14, 2016

Overall guide is OK for federal.
When it came to NOL and foreign owners, one had to resort to form fill-in, there was no guidance.
For CA state return, only support standard C corp Form 100. If you are taking Waters Edge election, such as if you are a foreing investor or start-up with assets in other countries, TT does not support that. I had to get the 100W form from the FTB web site manually, and fill in manually.
What's great about it: Works OK for C-corp filing federal
What's not so great: Does not support Waters Edge filing for CA (100W)

I give this program and A- for the reasons mentioned in the pro and con.
What's great about it: Quick data entry
What's not so great: Need to see an overview of data input windows so no where to add data

Easier to do it manually
on March 14, 2016

I have a very simple S Corp, and didn't want to pay an accountant to do my return. However, TurboTax managed to make it as painful as possible, specifically the balance sheets. It wouldn't input my previous years balances, so I ended up finding out a work-around to manually enter all of my data onto the actual tax forms, defeating the whole purpose of using this software. When I got to the state return, none of the information transferred, and I couldn't access the federal balance sheet, so I ended up having to redo all that work I shouldn't have had to do in the first place.
What's great about it: E-File was easy
What's not so great: Filling out the actual return was like pulling teeth
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
