I really like this product because we do not have cable or satellite so we stream everything. This is the cheapest, actually functioning, device that serves all of our apps I have found. It does work very well.
I bought this a few months ago because we wanted an alternative to cable tv. We are satisfied with the channels we receive. Our only problem is with the remote. Most of the time it does not function. We had to download the roku app to our phone in order to use it as a remote. This is not always convenient when another person is watching roku tv.
The stick works as it should... Connects to wifi, streams video, etc. the remote, however, works about half the time. We can't get through a program or movie (if we want to pause or fast forward), without resetting the remote. Not that hard, but having to take the battery cover off, removing and reinstalling at least one battery, is a nuisance.
The remote had a blinking green light from the very beginning. I now know that those in the box must have been old. I am having to replace batteries about every three weeks. The stick works great...have no complaints there. But, there needs to be a way to turn OFF the remote when not in use. That seems like a basic requirement, wouldn't you say?
I love having the freedom of viewing what I want to watch without paying for 200 channels I didn't want or will watch. I can watch for free or choose to buy just what I want to watch. NICE! The remote can be frustrating. I have found that it will stop working, then I take the batteries out and then just put them back in and it will work for a while again. I hope they improve that part of it.
I own both Roku Stick and Chromecast Cast Stick. Both have advantages over the other. Love the remote with the Roku, however, am having problems with it losing connection with the stick. The streaming quality is o.k., but do experience a lot of reloading. I haven't had these issues with Chromecast, so I'm leaning toward's it being a Roku issue, but it could also be an issue with my ISP provider. The Roku stick does not interfere with the TV reception, when I switch back and forth. Chromecast does. Overall, I give the Roku an edge in user friendly because of the remote, but Chromecast for streaming quality and connectivity.
