Recently purchased a Roku 3 and Roku Stick, and they are BOTH great at what they are designed to do. The only reservation that I have is the incompatibility of Roku remotes between players. Roku should have a universal remote for ALL Roku devices, and make replacements available...
We bought this a couple weeks ago before we got rid of cable. We aren't big tv watchers so were looking to something that we could use to watch movies or play games as a family. We haven't even tapped into all that Roku does but we do play Wheel of Fortune and You Don't Know Jack all the time and we have watched so many old and new movies. It was the best decision!
I like the compact nature of Roku, however, the system tends to be a lot slower than the PS4 I replaced the streaming with. Also, it appears I have to unplug the controller often to get it to mess with the remote. My smartphone remote works much easier, but I don't want to use my phone as the remote.
I bought this a month ago. What a great purchase. I can put all of my kids' favorite channels on the stick, take it along on vacations and use it at our hotel.
I purchased to the Roku to cut the cord. I enjoy the Roku, but would like additional capability and channels to compete with cable, such as Foxnews, and the ability to scribe to other cable only channels if I deem their content worth seeing (which I don't). Live sports content is lacking.
I own about everything Apple, iPhones, computers, iPads, and even multiple Apple TV sets. I bought my Roku for two reasons.
#1 for the Sling TV app (Dish Network) to have some main stream TV channels. #2 for the Mormon Channel app to be able to stream General Conference, since we do not have local channels in our area.
The device is pretty nice when it works! I bought one for my in-laws house at first, and ended up buying one for my own home. The batteries in the remote die every couple of months. Since there is no Infared sensor, the remote is basically always on, making the batteries deplete more often than I would like.
Secondly, the unit itself often doesn't work. It is designed to turn on when you turn on the TV, but about 30% of the time, the unit does not startup as expected. Often I have to unplug the device from the computer, and from the wall outlet, let it sit for a minute, and then try again.
We bought this product because our co-op cable network offered so little new movies. Since we are seniors I wanted to see if we can operate this product easily and I'm delighted! We use the cell phone as our remote because we have to change batteries daily on the remote that comes with the streaming stick. But I'm more than delighted with this technology and will cancel all those premium channels the cable company offers this week.
