Our TV/Movie provider kept increasing out monthly charge, so we cancelled the service, and are now accessing TV, Movies, Hulu, Netflix and other services through out Roku Streaming Stick. As I said in the title, it was easy to set up and use.
I bought it a month ago n it works well in providing the possibillity to see most of the football games happening in all major leagues around europe. However it really sucks sitting on my sofa waiting hours n hours for my stick to load. At the end of the day i still watch the games but with real good patience since the broadcasting does not seem to go for any straight 5 minutes without breaking down n then a pause of few minutes again and then it comes back again. I guess am still gonna keep my membership though. Areas to develop might include the information of what is being showed on a particular channel, i mean its really difficult schrolling over n over searching a for particular game on many channels that have to first load which takes time, then at the end of the day might not be showing the game you r looking for n then you proceed to the other channel with the same hope that it is being showed there. At the end of the day before you make it to the game you are searching for, the first half of the game is almost gone. It would have been easier and more stress free if every channel have it written next to it the current programme that is being showed so that every viewer will just go directly to the desired programme without wasting time.
I love the service but the batteries have gone dead twice in two months. Not sure what is going on but once the batteries go you can not access anything.
This was easy to set up and get operating. I think the controller needs more explanation -- I think I have learned how to use it but some functions are still awkward to use. My guess is there are better ways to do things but without instructions you have ti find them by trial and error.
I have had the Roku 3 and Roku 2 for several years so with this new product I expected more performance. I plugged this into the back of my Panasonic 52 inch and it worked right away. Great! Then it froze. Hum..... Pressed the little reset button and it starts working again. Watched for about 10 minutes and froze. Pushed the reset button, that is REAL hard to get to as it's on the back, center of my TV. Started working again. The next time it froze the reset button didn't do anything. OK, says I. Pull the power cord, wait 15 seconds, plug back in, and it works, again.
Next time it froze I'd had enough. I hadn't even been able to watch anything for 20 minutes. Back to the store it goes.
Specifics: My N class wireless router is about 30 feet from my laptop and my laptop is 4 feet from my TV. The laptop is a 64bit 4 core 8 gig ram ThinkPad running windows 7 enterprise. I am a computer systems performance test and analysis expert with 35 years experience. I've testing just about any type of computer systems components and networks. If I had the inclination to setup a "man in the middle" trap I could really tell you what was happening that causes the drops. But Unless Roku asks me for help, I'll get back to my Roku 3.
I don't know what the problem is but it appears to not hold the wireless connection well. That's my guess. When I get the next model I will try again.
