I received a Roku stick after signing up for 3 months prepaid Sling.tv. This exact use for which I got the Roku stick -- watching Sling.tv -- is horrible. The underpowered stick can't handle streaming live tv, takes minutes to switch between channels, and is constantly freezing. IF you can actually get the remote to respond to your commands. It's a good thing the Roku stick is so easy to setup, because I had to hard reset the thing several times, as it was the only way to get the remote to respond. I have since put together a Media PC for watching TV, and the Roku stick is sitting in my desk drawer.
I bought this about a month ago. So far, I'm really happy with it! The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because the battery life with the remote is terrible! I was changing batteries every week. Now I take the batteries out when I'm not using it, which is inconvenient.
I've had the roku stick for two weeks. Shows that I'm watching are constantly retrieving. I have to turn it on and restart constantly. The remote constantly quits working. I have replaced the batteries wih brand new ones on two occasions... Continues to not work, have to take batteries out and move around then works again for a minute or two. I'm very disappointed.
I love all the channels I can get with roku, and the fact that I've saved a lot of money on cable! I can listen to music, watch Netflix, order movies on Amazon, and even look up videos on YouTube for much cheaper than I would pay for cable. The only problem I have is that the Roku will freeze every so often ( about every month or 2) for no apparent reason. I have to completely reset it and re-enter all my username and passwords, which is a real hassle. Overall I love it and am satisfied with my purchase.
The remote worked right out of the box for a day. The batteries were included so I put in a different set of batteries. Again it worked for about a day now nothing. On the upside, the roku remote app is awesome. It works through the WiFi so you don't have to point at the roku. You don't even have to be in the same room. Also you can view any picture or video on your phone through the roku remote app.
