First let me state that the Roku stick itself does a good job of steaming content. I don't have a single problem giving the streaming. It gets a full 5-stars there. Wi-Fi setup is a snap. Another 5-stars there. It's small unobtrusive and hides well behind my Visio TV. Now I'll move on to the bad. The remote works as poorly as the remote on the original Roku box from years ago. It paired the first time OK but after a week the stick lost contact with the remote. Trying to pair it again failed 3 times before I was able to reset everything and start over. After pairing the remote again the stick it worked all night again. While the remote was unrecognizable my only contact with the Roku stick was via a smart phone app, which was actually the only way I was able to reset everything and get the remote working again. It's an ugly requirement to have to use a smart phone to fix something as seemingly simple as a remote. My last comment involves more of the "ugly" part, and once again it centers on the remote. That little piece of black plastic eats batteries faster than a kids toy! Why? Batteries in most of my other remotes last for years. The Roku remote drains a pair of AAA batteries in a month.
There's nothing available that's worthwhile (e.g. Netflix) that isn't part of the t.v. Plus, Chromecast does a much better job interacting with other devices. I wanted to like this but returned it and bought a second Chromecast.
We bought the Roku and the Apple TV at the same time for two different TVs. The Roku is ok. I find the remote to not be that great. The fast forward/rewind isn't so easy to use. You either fly by where you want to be, or you do not go far enough. I am much happier with the Apple TV functionality. It streams faster and is easier to use.
I have been using my roku stick for a month now, and I absolutely love it. The set up was effortless, the programs work fast, and I have yet to have it freeze up on me. I can take the stick anywhere there is an hdmi port in the t.v. and turn it into a "smart" t.v. Technology this nice is usually not this easy to navigate! GREAT JOB ROKU!
