This was my second Roku the first one gave us problems from the start. The remote would get none responsive quite often and wore out batteries. This replacement seems better, so far.
I initially was perplexed about the Roku set-up, but a friend told me I needed to change my TV component to HD4 by using a different remote than the remote I typically use (you know how all TVs have up to 3 remotes now). Once I did this, the set up was so simple! I've had the Roku for about a month now and love it!
Nice when it works. Freezes up 2-3 times per week even with updated firmware. Big hassle getting pay channels. Required credit card for adding a pay channel, as well as endless "keyboarding" on a dinky remote, but it did not work. Had to go to channel's website to enroll all over again.
It's great that it can be plugged directly into the television, but it needs USB power, which is achieved by a USB cable and adapter - which means still another power cord. Or rather, like I did, you can power the Roku Stick from an available USB port on the television, if you have one. The down side is that every time you power on the TV, you then power on the Roku- waiting for it to boot up. The plus side, I guess, is that the Roku Stick is powered off when the TV is too.
Navigation is considerably slower on the Roku Stick then the Roku 3. The only reason I got the stick, is because it was 'free' with a 3-month subscription to Sling TV. If I would buy another Roku, I would not buy the Roku Stick.
I bought this product about 2 months ago. The product works great and the set up was easy. The DVR style menu is also user friendly (of course I would like to have the ability to 'jump' to an app easily.
