The stick itself is wonderful. However the remote sucks. it keeps unsinking with the stick and you have to constantly take the batteries reset the remote. If you want to save yourself some grief and put the app on your phone.
I had been using an old Roku box for about 4 years. My mom wanted to get Roku, so she bought us the stick for the living room about a month ago, and took the box up to her room. Looks great now, because you can't see it! The remote, however, sucks! It stopped working after 2 or 3 weeks and the only thing that worked was changing the batteries. After another week or two, it stopped working again. This time I was able to get it to work by removing and reinstalling the batteries. If it happens again in a short time, I will be returning it! I do like that you don't need to point the remote at the stick/box, though I still point it at the TV. My kids have an easier time using it. I wish that the buttons on the bottom of the remote (the ones that automatically open predetermined apps) were customizable. I don't use any of those apps, and would like the buttons to be useful. Rather, they are annoying because we accidentally hit them and [since we don't have to have it pointing AT a box] we end up changing what we are watching. Happens more with the kids than with the adults, but it happens.
I own Roku boxes for 2 other TVs in the house. I've tried a couple of other tv streaming devices.....and have gotten rid of ALL OF THEM....BECAUSE THEY ARE JUST NOT ROKU. When I inherited another TV, I needed another streaming device and decided to try Roku's Streaming Stick. LOVE. IT.....and it's so wonderfully portable when I'm traveling and staying away from home.
I love what it provides and ease of set up. However anytime I have to reboot because system gets hung up I have to move whole tv to get at reset and then go thru entire set up again. I am volunteers one may have addressed this with box addition. I am considering buying updated one
We got this primarily for it's portability and it works great. It's every bit as good as the regular unit except that it is a bit slow to react to commands. I like though, that I don't have any obstruction problems. The unit is plugged into an HDMI port on the back of the TV but still works fine.
