I was a little unsure about streaming TV. My mind was changed with Roku. Great free and paid apps that allow you to watch TV when you want and watch what you want.
I've been a fan of Roku for a couple of years now. I began my roku experience with the roku 2 when I made the decision to 'cut the cord' on cable. It has been a great experience. Shortly after, I purchased the roku stick for my mother after comparing it to Chromecast, a device which my job at the time offered a really good discount on. The Chromecast just didn't add up to all the features and channel options of the roku stick. I purchased with mild caution because my mother is not very tech savvy; however, after only a short while she became very familiar with the device as it really is user friendly. Just this past Christmas, I purchased one for my 12 yr old daughter's room (she'd been streaming on her very limited Wii). Before, though, I'd purchased Amazon's fire stick for her, because I'd caught a really good sale. Unfortunately, again, it did not compare to the features of Roku. Now my daughter can enjoy so many streaming options from the comfort of her own room; on a device she is already familiar with. My family loves roku. I've saved so much money since I cut the cable cord. I've recommend the roku stick to several of my family and friends.
My wish for future models is an option to download something similar to 'kodi' for firestick, which allows streaming of cable TV channels and access to movies fresh out of theaters. Although, I don't know the legality regarding that type of software/content yet, but if available, I'd pay a pretty penny for it.
It won't work on one of my TVs , even with an extender cable. My Amazon Prime stick does work on that TV so I know that the problem is not a weak wifi signal.
Got my Roku for Christmas and I love it. Would be 5 stars, but the remote works about 10% of the time. The iPhone app works great, plus it allows typing for easy search.
