I got the Roku stick to use as a mobile tool to "carry" my Netflix (built into my TV) from room to room, thus creating a convenient method to watch TV in our work out room and bedroom. Realize my other option would have been to install cable throughout the house (big dollars). So this met all the needs I bought it for, THEN I learned that using the Roku with my internet and TV service provider (cable company) I had mobile access to multiple HBO & Showtime sites that I didn't know I had access to! Now I have a SUPER entertainment in any room I want!
I do enjoy my roku when it works. Unfortunately the stick sometime will loose connection easily making it hard to watch any TV without a pause every 10 minutes.
I received the stick for Christmas and have been very happy with the channels available. I do not watch a lot of TV so do not need to keep on top of current episodes of anything-I also like to be able to binge watch a show if the mood strikes me.
Our TV is about 7 years old. We plugged the stick in, ran power to a USB port, and setup was a breeze. There is a good amount of free children's content, which is great for us. With free trial periods available on almost all of the apps, we are testing the waters to find what works best for the adults!
