I bought the ROKU because I didn't want a costly cable or satellite bill. It's pretty slow (I got the cheapest version) but other than that it works well. There are only a few things I care to watch & I use Netflix & Hulu on the ROKU. My husband likes VUDU.
I love the idea you can now "stream" in motel/hotels IF they have the TV remote that can get to AVX (audio-video extra channel, AV1, 2, etc). I actually have two Roku Streaming sticks - one for travel and one in our trailer..
I have used the stick for about 2 months and have had a Roku box for 2 years. Picture quality is what I expected. Setup up took some time but was intuitive. Two things bother me, though. Unlike my box, I have to double push the remote buttons regularly to get it to respond. I don't know whether it is sleepy or the remote is just not as good. Second, about 1 out of every 4 or 5 times I log into Netflix or Amazon, I get the purple screen of death (not intentionally a reference to Prince). It tells me I am not "authorised" (sic) to view the program. First, I despise the British spelling. Second, as a subscriber and Prime member, I am authorized. I have to reboot the stick and then it usually works fine. But that is at least once a week and annoying and I never have this problem with my box. So, the stick's okay but does seem like a cheap version of the box, which has nothing to do with other features like gaming which I never use on my box.
Bought Roqu one few months ago and so pleased I bought the Stick for the bedroom and since have added outside antenna for local TV channels and cancelled CABLE. It's all about saving money.
I should have just bought another roku box. I have two roku 1 box's acme a streaming stick. The streaming stick loses connection to its remote constantly. I hate it!!!
