I'm an old guy first off 41, man of before the Internet, so for me cutting the cord is a big thing. That saw I personally I love the investigating figuring out how to use this cool hybrid. I fear most won't put in the 40 hours required to get even what this is. I feel the cost is prohibitive for standard programming obvumiously efforts by exsisting program providers to compare Roku to cable, but that is not really Rolu's primary function. sold as tv limited, how your selling it is working slowly but you got me. I cut and no desire to go back. Thanks low review is reflective of my perception of ol
As far as I can tell the stick itself is okay. The remote continually locks up. The only way I can get it to work each time it locks up is to remove the batteries and put them back in. Yes, the batteries are definitely fresh; have tried several new ones. Once the batteries have been put back in generally the remote continues to work for a few hours.
I bought my Roku stick after several years of owning my original Roku and finally cut my cable. What I saved in the first cable free month covered the cost of the stick. The quality is good and cost great.
Generally, the streaming stick seems to work well. Nice user interface, lots of content. I have it plugged directly into my receiver so I can get Dolby Digital Plus surround sound when supported by the content (rather than plugging it into my TV and using the ARC to the receiver...ARC does not support DD+).
HD picture quality is spotty. I don't know if the stick buffers content, but when watching shows, there are periods of time when the video quality is HORRIBLE, and then suddenly it will be crystal clear HD.
I gave up on using the included remote (and according to what I found online, I'm not the only one). It constantly loses connection with the Roku, and I tried many, many different things to get it to work. The workaround is to just download the remote app on your phone...that consistently works well.
I bought this about a month ago and it was the best thing I ever did.No more DirecTV or cable bills.I chose Hulu for 7.99 a month as an extra.I will never go back.I can watch what I want when I want.
I anticipate you'll probably not publish this, but you insisted on a review, so here it is. Frankly, folks, I'd save my money for a nice dinner in lieu of buying this device. My expectations of this device (and others similar to this) were unrealistic. Somehow I had it in my head that this device would be the ticket to getting rid of cable because it would provide access to a wide variety of programs. Well, much to my disappointment, all ROKU does is provide access to a number of pay services such as HULU and Redbox. ROKU does provide a very limited selection of "free" programs but almost all of those programs are nothing worth watching. If you have a smart TV, you really don't need to buy a ROKU or anything like it because the smart TV provides you with the same programming access as a ROKU.
